No, it's more akin to a linear or kinetic novel under this point ( with some sandbox elements) so you don't risk to lose anything, have fun it's a great game.

You can start patrolling only when the construction of the defensive wall is started (you get out to distract the shadows from the girls building it), did you sent the girls to gather the rocks from the kitchen?
