That story is also full of misinformation. The coffee was magnitudes more hot than it really needed to be, to the point where the victim could have died. Please actually try to read up on the Liebeck v. McDonald's lawsuit.

I couldn't care less about the specifics of the case. a) water boils at 100 deg C. It turns to steam at this temperature and any higher. So coffee cannot be made with water "many magnitudes hotter" than boiling. That is impossible. It would no longer be water & you cannot make a cup of coffee with steam.
Regardless, it still ends up with Caution Hot being written on the top of hot drinks.
It's still a protection against the totally fucking obvious.

If they do not, it's entirely on them.
Not the company who sold them the product they ordered, which was 12 degrees lower than boiling, roughly the perfect temperature for making coffee.
Everyone knows that coffee is made with hot water, it's not something new.
One moron who didn't act responsibly with an obviously hot drink is not the fault of the company who provided them with the hot drink that they requested and should, by all rights, have expected to be hot.
If you ordered a coffee and it was made with luke warm water, you'd have valid grounds for complaint.

I never once claimed that you did. Read properly and comprehend. you'll notice that the quotation marks end at the word "hotter".

The reason I mentioned boiling water, is because it is only 4 degrees higher than the max optimal temperature for coffee. This is to demonstrate that you cannot possibly reach "many magnitudes hotter than it really needed to be" for coffee, if there are only 4 degrees left until it is becoming steam. If I recall correctly the lady suffered 2nd degree burns. That shouldn't happen just from spilling coffee on yourself. She was absolutely in the right to sue them, they deserved it.
