It was updated a few months ago and it's taking a while because it's being made by the dude for free as a passion project.
I have to admit, I think most of the game that are made in nowdays are focused on making money, find a game made by someone just because he have passion for some game franchise makes me very happy :) at same time that makes me concerned about project abandonment because there's nothing holding him to continue the project only his will and passion, in this kind of situation all can do is pray for the best and maybe some good feedbacks.

Think there's some sort of flag error. I didn't even visit the trial, I'm just messing around, visiting everything but the main quest I'm supposed to be doing.

Wait, no one asked me anything; I came here 'cause I wanted to explore. This was totally random for me.

I guess in both cases there was no check if the quest was accepted so it plays like you accepted that quest. Would probably be more clever if the player arrives at the scene but because he lacks information he goes away or the scene doesn't trigger until necessary.

Unknown Developer I have a question for you. Please don't see that as an insult or mocking but from what I can see you needed around three years to get part 1 done. At least that's my assumption, based on when this thread started and the latest build was released.

May I ask why it took so long? Is it because of work and that you don't have much time each day, where there problems with the game in the past that you had to fix first, did you had to pause the project for a while?

I'm asking because I really love your little project. But I don't know often you can release a new build and how much new content is there. Can you give me a good answer to that? It's just for me to get a feeling of your work schedule.^^'

Basically, this is my hobby project. It takes too long for each update because frequently I get distracted by something, or work takes 10-12 hours of my day (I have worked for almost a year in a nearby city, so when counting for transportation and lunchtime, I passed 12 hours of my day working), right now, my work is in the same city, but it's a little far and I still don't have a motorcycle nor car, and there are no buses close, so I have to walk most of the way, which is good for me to make some exercise since I'm too sedentary and like the PC as my entertainment, but it also consumes 1:30 hours of the day, plus lunchtime, which I stay in the work, because it's far from home, that makes it 10-11 hours of my day.

I also like to play video games and watch anime, so sometimes I get distracted with something and do not get in the mood to work on the game (like recently with Factorio. Curse that game, it's good, but too addicting). It also doesn't help that some parts of the development aren't that funny to me, like mapping.

I do intend to finish this, and I took about 4 years to finish the first part, so I'm the first to recognize how much I procrastinate.

As for the content of each update, it's an entire section of the game. For example, the first release went until the first battle with Alma Elma, covering the entire Ilias Island, the second release covered the entire Natalia region until Sylph, and now the third goes until Gnome. Of course, after each release, I fix the bugs and add things that were left out from the release. But since I take so long to post anything, I prefer that when I post it, it must have a good chunk of content, about 8 hours of gameplay to justify you replaying everything if you don't remember what I did prior. As consequence, yes, it takes a year or more in between updates.

Thanks for playing the game, sorry for all the delay.

Ah ok, thanks for being honest and sharing such a big amount of private information. I guessed as much, you have much to do irl and want to enjoy life so I can understand that it takes so long. Oh well, if perhaps one or two builds can happen each year it's fine for charging nothing while doing this and having it as a hobby and working alone. Thanks for your endurance and passion. <3

I am currently playing the origional. Being better than the original is a pretty big endorsement :)
Currently played maybe 3 hours of remake(not played original, and likely never will. Not a big fan of kinetic novels or VNs at large).

And, so far, I feel it isn't as good as the sequel Paradox In terms of gameplay.

For 1, that game seems to be more open ended, and with more choices & options(alot of side quests and main quests atleast offering a dichotomy, and rare instances, alternate ways to complete quests),
had a monstergirl capture and party system(not sure if this does),
and allowed you to freely pick out of a large roster of classes & prestige classes for a more personal experience.
And, had a fairly open map with quite a bit of exploration, even early game.

I do really appreciate that this one offers you some choices. Like the 1 at the start between Ilias and Alice.
And I can see there are new side quests in this, based on the comments/Description, and the obvious RPGM art chars.

Now, if only they could be cured of Japan syndrome, and actually feature roleplay dialogue choices and flavour options in their roleplaying game.
I saw some already in first 20 mins in remake. Don't hold out on me unknown. I know you got the goods, I've seen them!

Uhm, you do realize that this is about the VNs and not Paradox, right? Ofc the game can't have so many options and side quests as Paradox due to not being about Paradox but the original trilogy. The dev offers a situational party system from time to time which is more the VNs had to offer where around ~90 % of all battles were you alone vs the monster girls.

There also can't be an Ilias path because this would alter the original game until it's an entirely different game. This ain't little Ilias who was reduced to a shadow of her former strength, this is genocide Ilias who commits mass murder for her own perverse ambition.

The dev offers you the chance to play that gem without having to endure the limitation of the old VN games and yet you compare two completely different games with each other and argue that it feels less than Paradox.

A very questionable opinion in my books but have it your way.^^'

Umm.. I guess.

Let's get this out of the way. As I stated, I would never have otherwise played mgq. Stating in that earlier reply I'm not a fan of VN's, and recognising the original as thus.
I'm not complaining about this game. I automatically think it is 100% superior to however the original game is and plays, just for not being a VN, even if that's a bit close minded of me, and might even be completely wrong.

You seem very eager to defend this game as if I was attacking it.
Instead, I was just sharing my passion for the official sequel to the original game, and noting some things that I liked better about it over this so far, which I am enjoying.

The dev of this remake said he hasn't played the sequel(which is a real shame. I feel there are definitely ideas from it he could have used).

Either way, I'm enjoying my time so far with this. Might run through this, and then do a second playthrough of paradox with a "ported" Luke from this one. Which is something I like to do in rpg series.

Oh, and i thought there was an illias path in this game. I purposefully chose what I thought was the Alice path, with which I thought ignoring her and heading for the temple would lead to illias's (somewhat similar with paradox).

That wasn't something I was complaining about. It's something I thought was in this game.

IIRC Unknown Dev originally considered an Ilias route for this game but decided against it because the game would basically never be finished if he did. (It is, to be fair, a lot of work to make an entirely original story branching less than halfway through the game), but yeah, you can only do Alice in this one.

Hm, maybe your wording was a bit off and I read too much into it but no, I'm not some hardcore defender of this project nor do I want to silence people in this thread just because their opinion differs from mine. The dev deserves credit for doing that for free (not that he has much choice, the possible lawsuit for makign cash with this would bleed him for the rest of his life).

So let's start clean again and have a nice chat, ok? We both messed up a bit here. :)

Nothing wrong in playing the sequel and getting new ideas that can improve the original. I would be disappointed if this was just a lazy 1:1 copy, just in RPG Maker this time. But there's only so much you can add without leaving the path. Think of it like playing an old RPG (like Morrowind as an example) but you only want some graphical improvements and perhaps some minor mods but it still should feel like the good old vanilla and NOT become something else. Losing that old vibe would be a betrayal and not worth of a remake.

AAA game studios made that error because they were too ambitious, oblivious of the original and what made it great or just out for a quick re-release and be done with it (Dark Souls 1 Remastered for an example, which pales in comparison to Demon Souls Remastered) and therefore giving the finger to the entire community.

Like cd21 just wrote there was an Ilias path planned (I wasn't aware of such a thing but I'm happy it was dropped both because of leaving the original and the absurd extra amount of required time) but I think this should be another project. The problem I see is that Luka jumps into the story way too late to make it enjoyable.

If Luka were a few years earlier involved (and still the same age as he is in the main timeline) it would be very interesting. But what would there be to do if he just joined from the beginning of part one or after part 2 ends? The angels are already OP and without Luka it would be an easy victory.^^

I wouldn't mind to have this as an extra project. Joining original evil Ilias sounds interesting and has potential.

In case I did that Ilias route, it would happen during the goddess sword thing. Luka would reject Alice and accept the quest for the goddess sword. How would it end? I'm never thought that much about it, but just a quick thought, I think I'd end it defeating Alice at the Monster Lord's Castle. And Luka receiving his reward from Ilias. Though considering the changes I planned to the story of the third game, I guess this wouldn't make much sense from Ilias's perspective. As for things being easy without Luka, that's planned to change.
