In case I did that Ilias route, it would happen during the goddess sword thing. Luka would reject Alice and accept the quest for the goddess sword. How would it end? I'm never thought that much about it, but just a quick thought, I think I'd end it defeating Alice at the Monster Lord's Castle. And Luka receiving his reward from Ilias. Though considering the changes I planned to the story of the third game, I guess this wouldn't make much sense from Ilias's perspective. As for things being easy without Luka, that's planned to change.
No offense but that would have been bad. You made it clear in that scene that the sword would influence Luka in a way that he only cares about slaying the Monster Lord. From what I can tell that means no free will anymore and merely acting as a mindless puppet. But Luka always acted like a puppet anyway. Ilias tolerated his journey with Alice because she would gain either a dead Monster Lord or an easy to kill hero. The latter didn't work so well since Luka was fast enough to avoid Ilias attack. Basically we wouldn't get anything new from that path unless you had quite the awesome story in your pocket.

If Luka on the other hand still had free will but the sword gave him ideas without taking control... yes, that could work. But you would have to add brutal text scenes since Lukas world view on monsters changed 180°. Plus how to depict losing scenes for Luka while being on genocide path? It sounds like a lot of work and the lack of additional artworks would make it look a bit cheap if only the text would change a little. :/

Perhaps the towers were build (or altered) after the great war and angels could be wounded with powerful attacks? Afaik it was never stated when the angel protection against all common weapons took effect. We only know the angels are invincible when they invade the Monster Lord castle due to the towers effect.

I hope Ilias gets more screen time, both before and after Lukas rebellion. Obviously she can't share vital information to Luka before he either took her path or when she mocks him in some way on the normal path but still... way too much details came out of nowhere.

I think Ilias is clever enough to have planned ahead so much. She literally has all eternity and was there from the very start. The only way she was stopped is plot armor and the good old "hah, I'm evil and could solve that problem right now but I'll wait instead until that problem becomes too big for me" habit.^^

But instead of becoming that ugly mass of mutation at the end I would love to see her in a advanced battle form that looks sexy and truly worthy of a advanced goddess. She thinks so highly of herself and is indeed beautiful so it made little sense to me why she would sacrifice that just for more power or not being able to handle its side effects when she had so much time to plan and is that powerful to survive the fusion and even escape the great ancestors seal.

Currently played maybe 3 hours of remake(not played original, and likely never will. Not a big fan of kinetic novels or VNs at large).

And, so far, I feel it isn't as good as the sequel Paradox In terms of gameplay.

For 1, that game seems to be more open ended, and with more choices & options(alot of side quests and main quests atleast offering a dichotomy, and rare instances, alternate ways to complete quests),
had a monstergirl capture and party system(not sure if this does),
and allowed you to freely pick out of a large roster of classes & prestige classes for a more personal experience.
And, had a fairly open map with quite a bit of exploration, even early game.

I do really appreciate that this one offers you some choices. Like the 1 at the start between Ilias and Alice.
And I can see there are new side quests in this, based on the comments/Description, and the obvious RPGM art chars.

Now, if only they could be cured of Japan syndrome, and actually feature roleplay dialogue choices and flavour options in their roleplaying game.
I saw some already in first 20 mins in remake. Don't hold out on me unknown. I know you got the goods, I've seen them!
I getting even more curious about playing this game now. I never thought about the railroad MGQ put the player on until now. I personally like it that way as it keeps the backtracking to a minimum. I love a great game but having to backtrack and constantly reload saves gets repetitive fast. I haven't played Paradox at all yet so that will be completely new to me.

Well you'll be in for a ride. It took me a bit over 100 hours to complete all the translated bits of act I & II + most of the non repeating side content(Played it back in 2020, so there could be alot more content).

As for backtracking, it's not quite how you're imagining it. The game for the most part had you travelling to new locations each time for the main story, just with alot of optional side content and areas. You could go off to.

It is really ambitious compared to the way the prequel appears.

There's also another monstergirl game In development by the guy who runs the monstergirl encyclopaedia, which looks to be another open world RPG.
But this time, with more focus in interacting with characters, side content, and dating monstergirls, than on typical hack 'n slash gameplay and story.

I played the demo quite a while back on initial release, and it was really open ended in what you could choose to do, and who you could bring along with you.
I don't know if it features an overworld or not.

Hm, maybe your wording was a bit off and I read too much into it but no, I'm not some hardcore defender of this project nor do I want to silence people in this thread just because their opinion differs from mine. The dev deserves credit for doing that for free (not that he has much choice, the possible lawsuit for makign cash with this would bleed him for the rest of his life).

So let's start clean again and have a nice chat, ok? We both messed up a bit here. :)

Nothing wrong in playing the sequel and getting new ideas that can improve the original. I would be disappointed if this was just a lazy 1:1 copy, just in RPG Maker this time. But there's only so much you can add without leaving the path. Think of it like playing an old RPG (like Morrowind as an example) but you only want some graphical improvements and perhaps some minor mods but it still should feel like the good old vanilla and NOT become something else. Losing that old vibe would be a betrayal and not worth of a remake.

AAA game studios made that error because they were too ambitious, oblivious of the original and what made it great or just out for a quick re-release and be done with it (Dark Souls 1 Remastered for an example, which pales in comparison to Demon Souls Remastered) and therefore giving the finger to the entire community.

Like cd21 just wrote there was an Ilias path planned (I wasn't aware of such a thing but I'm happy it was dropped both because of leaving the original and the absurd extra amount of required time) but I think this should be another project. The problem I see is that Luka jumps into the story way too late to make it enjoyable.

If Luka were a few years earlier involved (and still the same age as he is in the main timeline) it would be very interesting. But what would there be to do if he just joined from the beginning of part one or after part 2 ends? The angels are already OP and without Luka it would be an easy victory.^^

I wouldn't mind to have this as an extra project. Joining original evil Ilias sounds interesting and has potential.
With the ds1 vs demon souls remake.
Wasn't the issue that darksouls 1 was just a scummy low effort re-release that simply changed to 64bit.exe, and slightly fixed the completely broken PC port?

I think that's a really bad example for developers becoming ambitious, or doing whatever with a remake to its detriment, and more an example of a scummy publisher or developer re releasing the same game under the guise of "remastered/remake" to sucker in unsuspecting fans into double buying.

A better comparison would be FF7 remake(which I haven't played it, or the original), which from what I'm aware, completely changes the game and re does parts or alot of the story, with just the same over arching theme.
With new types of content, side quests, events etc.

That game was obviously a massive success, and from what I understand, only features in the starting town for the first part of the original game.

And, that's kind of sad that both in the original and this remake there's no illias path. Although I see you and unknown discussing it more after this comment(tries ignoring your second reply to avoid spoilers lol).

In general, I think it can be really fun to be playing on the "wrong" team. But if it actually doesn't make sense, then that's fine.

And I know it would take alot of work. I had just assumed it was there lol.

It was just a quick example what can go wrong if overambitious, oblivious or greedy people are involved. DS 1 could have been so much more than just minor bug fixing, a few more pretty graphic changes and so on. I would have been happy to either get the same but very pretty this time or some good changes without tearing the spirit of Dark Souls apart. It's always a matter of taste and how you look at it but yeah, shame on From Software for that. The community had to step in first with dsfix because of a broken PC port and with the re-release new and old bugs found their way into the game once more.

As I said, it would be very interesting to have but one person can never handle that additional work. It would probably be like creating 1 1/2 game at the same time when it comes to content. That's insane, the good man does this as a hobby while having to work each day and having somewhat annoying time wastes with traveling from home to work and back and other crap.

Playing as the bad guy, who has a reason to act as he/she does, not just being evil for plot, is interesting and often fun to experience.

We will see what the future has to offer. I hope more people will follow into Unknown Developers footsteps and try to create something similar, perhaps even completely new. =3

Completely irrelevant to the discussion. But in joiplay, the game turns from silky smooth cycles into a pretty, but static still whenever you get into fights in harpy village with the 3 companions.

While just mashing the enter button gets me through most of the fights (it freeze frames on the last performed action, not drawing any menus, etc, sk you can't see what's happening.).
I can't actually beat the harpy queen with this method, which makes this incompletable.

If worst comes to worst, I can play it on PC some other time to get past this section.
But, in case anyone else uses joiplay. Are there perhaps settings that might rectify the issue?

I have been playing the game mostly as intended aside from savescumming some losses due to the girls having some unorthodox strategies. *Looking at you Iron Maiden and Antlion*. I've been playing as intended because I assumed there wasn't any perk to going off track. Also, since it's possible to leave the area without completing all the quests wouldn't it be possible to lock yourself out of completing the game due to being underleveled? If that is the case, I hope this remake has something in it to keep that from happening. Also, you mentioned the three parts, I am currently playing the 3-in-1 version on here so I am unsure where one chapter ends and another begins. Is it one continent per chapter?

And yes, I have certainly heard of Kenkou Cross's MGE game. I played some of the demo with my old gf while she was here and I own the MGE Vol 1 & 2. I am looking forward to when he finally releases the full game as I am expecting it to be on the same level as MGQ itself.

It is possible, and even intended from the devs, to skip many side quests for one achievement. You can read about it .

Part 1 (both in the VNs and in the Remake) ends after getting Gnome. You will start in the Noah region when you fire up part 2.
Part 2 ends after defeating Alice in her throne room and not killing her. You will start part 3 in the MOnster Lord castle and fight the angels for the first time.

Could you describe it here instead? I am worried I might see spoilers if I click on that link.

These are some pretty long parts, I thought I would be close to the end of the game by now. I am shocked to hear about the beginning of part 3 and not killing the snake. I am a good boy and want to make Best Girl happy *Angel emoji*

I can't describe this in detail without dropping many spoilers.^^ You better finish the game first and then read it for yourself. I already feel bad that I said anything. X3

Or Illias. I would read the comments above but I'm afraid of getting spoiled. I am surprised Ilias doesn't have a commandment against reading/ giving spoilers lol.

She probably does. Luckily we have a safe haven here, away from her baneful gaze, where all are free to spoil and be spoiled to our hearts content.

Well ofc, I died for you sinners. Show some goddamn praise. :p
And for our porn, if the names to be believed.

She has a secret one when you ask too often for advice after losing a battle. :D
I noticed her comments getting more cynical the more I asked for her advice. The last couple of times I asked, she mentioned wanting to find a replacement hero. Are you referring to the lost commandment of Ilias?

Baneful gaze? I love Best Goddess, I would love for her to see my h posts and smile upon my human wonderment for women. Ilias is a goddess who wants her beloved humans to be happy :)

That said, for some reason I keep seeing a subtle disdain for Best Girl and last time I looked on Ebay, there was an Alice waifu pillow but no Best Girl pillow. That sounds worrying, as though Best Girl may not be beyond becoming corrupted into doing something not Best Girl-like. *Plz no spoil*
