It was just a quick example what can go wrong if overambitious, oblivious or greedy people are involved. DS 1 could have been so much more than just minor bug fixing, a few more pretty graphic changes and so on. I would have been happy to either get the same but very pretty this time or some good changes without tearing the spirit of Dark Souls apart. It's always a matter of taste and how you look at it but yeah, shame on From Software for that. The community had to step in first with dsfix because of a broken PC port and with the re-release new and old bugs found their way into the game once more. With the ds1 vs demon souls remake.
Wasn't the issue that darksouls 1 was just a scummy low effort re-release that simply changed to 64bit.exe, and slightly fixed the completely broken PC port?
I think that's a really bad example for developers becoming ambitious, or doing whatever with a remake to its detriment, and more an example of a scummy publisher or developer re releasing the same game under the guise of "remastered/remake" to sucker in unsuspecting fans into double buying.
A better comparison would be FF7 remake(which I haven't played it, or the original), which from what I'm aware, completely changes the game and re does parts or alot of the story, with just the same over arching theme.
With new types of content, side quests, events etc.
That game was obviously a massive success, and from what I understand, only features in the starting town for the first part of the original game.
As I said, it would be very interesting to have but one person can never handle that additional work. It would probably be like creating 1 1/2 game at the same time when it comes to content. That's insane, the good man does this as a hobby while having to work each day and having somewhat annoying time wastes with traveling from home to work and back and other crap. And, that's kind of sad that both in the original and this remake there's no illias path. Although I see you and unknown discussing it more after this comment(tries ignoring your second reply to avoid spoilers lol).
In general, I think it can be really fun to be playing on the "wrong" team. But if it actually doesn't make sense, then that's fine.
And I know it would take alot of work. I had just assumed it was there lol.
Playing as the bad guy, who has a reason to act as he/she does, not just being evil for plot, is interesting and often fun to experience.
We will see what the future has to offer. I hope more people will follow into Unknown Developers footsteps and try to create something similar, perhaps even completely new. =3
