Would also like to know. Normally I just replace existing textbox with transparent one, but this game doesn't easily allow it for some reason. Haven't delved into the code to find out why that is, but I really dislike when games use the generic big ugly textbox that obscures a portion of the goods on screen while not allowing player to adjust it.

Personnaly, I use my simple textbox transparency in all Ren'Py games that do not offer an adjustable transparency.

You don't patch yourself. Whoever creates the port should include the patch, and then you get their entire Android port. You wouldn't need to get a patch separately or anything.
