In all fairness, Vivian didn't even give Hutch a chance to do something. She commandeered the whole situation, and basically shoehorned him into her plan. His agency was taken away from him, by her, the moment he told her about the lost accounts. Just another example of her self-centered narcissistic personality.
He didn't have any say in it. It was not his plan, nor a joint plan, in any way. Just another example of her selfish personality.
Honestly I don't know about that, Hutch seems to be a weak type man, when cornered he crumbles, and I assume over the last 22 years Vivian had to take the wheel a bunch in the decision making, I have to do that for my wife, if faced with a challenge she thinks is a waste of time, she would rather tuck away and hide rather than face the problem head on, I have had to create plans for her a lot, and I would not call myself self-centered or narcissistic, or selfish, just the job I have to do as a husband to get her motivated, (though I am not fucking her boss, nor would I, pew) and I have a friend that is also a lot like that, his wife is the pants wearer in their house, he would rather not think about shit, let others deal with it...
now in both people they suffer from depression, and that can play a big roll in giving up power to a spouse, it also comes off as lazy....
