On a side note: I am also going to rework some of my initial chapters to bring them up to the current standard, add some QOL features such as a replaying scenes, gallery, ect... to just pollish the game up before we get too far to go back. The initial impression needs to be strong and set the tone just right, which is why I can understand Circle doing it.
I'll be adding some new content along with this as well.
why don't you guys ever do this shit AFTER the teasing has paid off? why is it always RIGHT BEFORE we get to the good stuff?

i've been holding off on reviewing your game because i wanted to see if you'd be the first NTS game to actually pay off the teasing and now you're talking about reworks at the exact same spot in the narrative as all the other NTS devs

this is why i don't support these games on patreon anymore lol. i honestly just don't think these devs know how to do anything other than blueball, no one except vulgar reverie has shown the confidence to actually do sharing/NTS, its all just buildup and never a climax

From what I understand two sex scenes are coming next, seems to be what has been said. Like two updates of pure sex scenes so I think the blue balls (which I felt a bit too after last update, despite enjoying it a lot) will be gone. Personally don't really care about NTS/NTR/whatever the hell, I just play good games I don't care about genres at all but I imagine there will be lots of that to come later. But for me if a scene is hot it's hot, and if the story makes sense to how they go there those two things is all I need, don't super care who's fucking who if it makes sense and it's hot. Variety is the spice of life after all.

to be clear i also despise the NTS/NTR rule enforcement brigade. i just think it's frustrating these games' entire narrative hinges on a girlfriend batting her eyelashes and going "would you... like it... if i fucked another guy???" and the boyfriend gulps and says "yes" and then it never fucking happens lol

it's just frustrating for the games to establish a goal, build toward it, and then turn the game into a treadmill where you never get closer to the prize and always just walk endlessly toward it

i would be totally fine with a dev taking a month to rework old embarrassing content, just do it AFTER you've fulfilled some of the promises of your premise. otherwise it starts to feel like a patreon milking scam because... that's probably what it is!

I feel much anger in this thread. Useless anger.
What happened? The dev shows up, says he reworked a few things and drops the reworked version. Fine. Where's the crime here? I am happy to see a dev is active. Sure, when I saw the update I was hoping for extra content as well. But if I cant get any I am glad to see the development continues.

I am not sure if everyone here understands how the process of creating something like these games works. The technical part and the content both need to be worked at and you can only ignore one part for so long. Doing a rework so early on is a good sign in my opinion. The dev was unhappy with something and fixed it before the size of the project made the fix unmanagably large. This shows some level of foresight that should be seen as a positive trait. As a project grows, adjustments have to be made.Delaying them is a bad choice in the very most of instances. Don't blame the dev for taking care of it.

Well I'm still early in my development. I've started mid November and have released 4 updates since then, each being way bigger than the last. By doing so, I haven't had the time to implement features that people want.

I know you have your view on this and I probably won't be able to convince you, but this would take me only 2 weeks to get an update out + some new content and then I can purely focus on moving forward without having to look back all the time. It's a hard balance to strike, but please... give us the benefit of the doubt.

I give you the benefit of the doubt. I know you guys aren't like the blurring the walls developer.

Besides, it took no time for circle to get the rework out and it's already done.

EDIT: You mentioned earlier that nobody wants the reworks and that would be true for most of the people that have played the game, but there's still new people discovering the game every single day, so making sure the initial impression is good, is important. Especially for the future if he ever releases it on platforms such as Steam.
Yeah that's why I said it's fine to do it alongside the normal updates, not make it the only thing in an update.
That's the key point. The work might even get done at the same time it would have normally but the player don't feel cheated out of an update.
maybe chapter 6 took 1 week longer to release and chapter 7 took 1 week longer to release and chapter 8 released with the rework.
Or whatever the time table would have looked like. The "DLC" stuff would be included in whatever chapter they happen in and not be called DLC.
I wouldn't complain at the very least.

It's just to keep people on the hook and keep them being patrons for longer. They try to dress it up in nice language and explain everything in a sensible manner, as basic PR...but there's no point to deluding ourselves into thinking the devs do this out of the kindness of their hearts or to help you wank or something. Every subsequent update that they can release where the tease is almost about to pay off means they can release another update afterwards that can get some extra people to subscribe in the hopes that "this is really it this time". Once you pop the cork there, a lot of people will be satisfied with whatever climax (as in culmination, but also as in...y'know) the game gives them and might not be as excited for new updates anymore.

Like Symbiotic said, there are new people discovering this game all the time, and to them (i.e. the developers), reworking the beginning of the game to try and appeal more to new players is more important than keeping old players, some of whom will keep falling to the sunken cost and/or already jumped ship due to the glacial pace of the action. New players can also double dip, since the next update is still quite a ways away. It all just circles back to keeping people on the hook; like a cartoon porn version of hard drugs. Some developers do it a little bit, and some stretch it out for waaay too long (sometimes years). I just hope MNG won't be the latter. The dev's got the tools, and I think he could easily just branch into "sequels" and new full games with new characters or POVs. The idea's already being sown with the DLCs coming anyway.

Tried the game in Chapter One, first release, stopped playing after 5 minutes because it seemed to stereotypical of the genre. Tried it again on the Chapter Four release, and I was pleasantly surprised with all of the improvements, including the re-work. Keep going!

no need to rework, game good as it is, just advance scenes/relations deeper. Also would be cool, i think, if we had a choice to choose a girl

Guys, let’s remember that this is a first game! No one’s dying over it. The dev (like all devs, really) is just a person—he can make mistakes, grow, and learn. That’s what first projects are for!

So let’s give constructive feedback. I’ll start:

• The splash screen is weaker (less readable) than the original, both in content and in form (the added graphical elements like bars and dots, which have a strong ’80s vibe). Unless the goal is a neo-retro style, this splash screen is a downgrade. The new splash is graphically messy (too much cut-offs) and less sexy than the original.
Laura do appear in the new one but was it that important?

main_menu.jpg

• The game starts with a full POV dream sequence. The original was perfect because it was unexpected and a bold choice. Now, we begin with an image of Eric, which doesn’t make sense—POV means you don’t see yourself, and this ruins the excellent surprise effect of the original.

• The sound used for “waking up” after first POV/dream sequence—a sort of eerie gong*—creates the opposite effect of what the first glimpse of the FMC is supposed to convey. Old sound, whatever it was, was better. (*impact.mp3)

• In the original, Vi was portrayed in two distinct ways: first as an innocent girl who later discovers her “naughty” side. These two versions were (hopefully intentionally!) differentiated through art style (bigger eyes etc). The new Vi renders in the prologue break this rule, which is a shame because it was a great idea.
The original Vi introduction had her looking a bit shy and unsure (though sexy already), which made sense given how the text unfolds later. Now, we immediately get Naughty Vi, which matches her final look in Chapter 5 but doesn’t really fit the beginning of the game.
As a reminder, even in Chapter 5, this duality in Vi’s character is visually reinforced—the Vi talking to Laura in the kitchen is not the same Vi as the one in the Neon Club.
The rework should have kept the “kitchen Vi” (top/left) for the opening to maintain this contrast (yellow arrow in the center)

Vi_diff.jpg

We can then comment on a few minor points:

• The rework of Laura’s pool encounter doesn’t change much, except that the harsher art style removes the softness that suited her so well (considering her development through the text).

• Anya’s encounter is probably better—originally, it was more of a sexy teaser than anything else.

rc arnold2.jpg deserves a background like rc arnold1.png.

• The flash of Vi’s father in demon mode feels childish—it’s overly exaggerated, doesn’t match the overall tone, and is therefore unnecessary.

I think that’s all for me! :D

I guess the timing is what's causing the negativity around it. First there's two DLC's for Chapter05 announced, then 2-3 weeks reworking Chapter01. It always leaves a bitter taste in people's mouths on F95 when they hear "rework" because more often than not it's the nail in the coffin. I've had similar feelings reading about a rework but fortunately Symbiotic explained the situation and then CG came in here posting the whole devblog to clear things up.

Now, Chapter01 rework is done and CG is working on the Anya POV DLC for Chapter05, so that is good news. Still, the timing of it was probably not the best as there's two DLC's in the making aswell as potentially more rework before Chapter06's development. I can see why people might not be too hyped about it, but let's try not to go up the walls just yet...
