Don't want to be rude, but it just was a heart attack, nobody died, and not even he had it. Usually you can return to work 2-3 weeks after the heart attack, so I really don't understand the delay. Not to be mentioned that the update must have been close to complete when he wanted to release it in December - after the delay when he wanted to release in November. And especially those who pay him imho could expect delivery for 4400$ per month. When my dad died 2 years ago and I wanted some days off of work my boss said, when I stayed at home I didn't have to come back again, then he would look for someone else.
Maybe Pandelo should change his income strategy from "per month" to "per update" to stay motivated. The goals on his Petreon page said that even 2500 per month would be enough to work on the game full time and even with 500$ per month he planned with "regular monthly updates". So it's about time he does what he promises. That's maybe not fair in your eyes, but that's life - if you want to earn money you have to deliver.

"I don't want to be rude, but..." Always followed by rude comment.

"I'm not racist, but..." Always followed by racist statement.

"I don't want to appear sexist, but..." Always followed by sexist comment.

Yes, it was "just" a heart attack... in the same way that cancer is "just" cancer.... and aggravated assault is "just aggravated assault... in a some of those cases nobody dies either. But it can be have grave implications for a persons health going forward and cause great emotional stress to both the afflicted and their family. It often means major permanent changes in your life and routine. Just because nobody died, doesn't mean it wasn't serious. This is just your first sentence in a post that is riddled with bullshit.

Seems like you don't understand a LOT of things. Your return to work after a heart attack depends on the severity of the heart attack (mild or major) and the type of work you do (fx desk job or firefighter). People who have suffered mild heart attacks might, in some cases, go back to low-mobility and low-stress jobs after 2-3 weeks of leaving hospital... but those cases are relatively rare For more serious cases it may take many months to return to work. Statistics may vary, of course, but generally the numbers look that. I work in the healthcare sector as an occupational therapist and I see such clients quite often. In any case, you have no idea how severe this particular incident is.

When my dad died 2 years ago and I wanted some days off of work my boss said, when I stayed at home I didn't have to come back again, then he would look for someone else.
Yelp. Sounds like your boss is an asshole. But I am guessing that you were ok with that? Considering that you value a porn game above family... But your example is anectdotal evidence and for every person you can find that didn't get time of work after the death of a relative, you can probably find one who did and thus make your example of "how real life works" null and void. Fx, when my grandfather died a few years back I got 3 days off from work. 1 to make funeral arrangement, 1 to clear out his dwelling and 1 to attend the funeral.

Maybe he should. But I don't think motivation is the problem. Since he started the game he has worked to bring an enjoyable and worthwhile experience to players and there seems to be no indication that his motivation is faltering. Good games take time and as the project grows so, in all likelyhood, will the time between updates. I agree that his promise to quit his job and work on the game full-time when reaching 2500$ is a promise he should adhere to... I understand his hesitation to do so due to patreon not being a reliable source of income (and the further implications of being a developer of adult material on a platform seeking to distance itself from that subject), but he should definitely stick with that promise and so far he hasn't. You can call him out for that. But that is an issue wholly separate from the situation around his mother's heart attack.

Since you are so displeased with his way of running his patreon, I assume that you have voiced your opinion there and maybe even cancelled your pledge to show your displeasure? Because you are/were a patreon... right? You're not just here on a pirate forum crying about how this game you're getting free of charge from generous donors isn't out on time... right?

Others have done a marvelous job responding to a ridiculous post. I can only hope that the person is a troll and not an insensitive cold-hearted individual who thinks to judge others' emotional pain by their own standards.

My issue has always been with people here telling me (paid supporter) how I should feel about my pledge. I saw it a lot over at Dr. Pink and it crops up elsewhere. Whenever people are upset with a dev over timing or content, they use the "if I were pledging, I would be..." line.

Well, I'm pledging and I want MSN more than most other games. But, it's just a game. My world doesn't revolve around its release timing.

Part of the difficulty for some to understand about how Patreon is really meant to work is confused by the monthly charging system. The assumption is that if a person is charged, they should get something each month. And, while there is a "charge by update" option, that misses the point, too.

Patronship, as its originally conceived (long, long before any of us were born) is about supporting artistic or intellectual pursuits for the pursuit itself. My support of Pandelo is for his work today, his work in the future and for all the great work he has already produced. It is not contingent upon results on some specific calenderized schedule.

If a dev announces a release date, then, sure, I look forward to that. If a dev then says that release date will be missed....well, then, I just look forward to when it does get released. And certain devs, based on quality and consistency earn trust, tolerance and patience.

So, thanks for the game Pandelo. Thanks for the consistency. And best wishes for your mom and you going forward.

P.S., please one day allow that MSN family threesome... (heh, couldn't resist)

It could have been "just a hear attack" or it could have had complications. It could have caused some damage, so he needs to help his mother and he still has a job outside of making a porn game (which he talked about at length... It could be anything, that causes him not being able to work on the game, really. At least it wasn't a stroke, which is much deadlier. I am not an expert, of coarse, just talking from my personal experience with a family member's death.

Thanks for this. Although, the Venn Diagram of people who try to tell others what to do with their money and people who will not read your post is probably a complete circle :).

I don't know what is so hard to understand about the concept that being a patron of developers on Patreon is not the exchange of paying for a product. I donate my money to support developers working on projects I enjoy. The only return on my investment that I expect is enjoyment. If I stop enjoying the experience for whatever reason, I stop pledging. I'm not purchasing anything. I am a " ."
