For 4 stars? Some progression so that I wouldn't have to sit at day 51 or wait for day 226 to access that neat content. Why can't I enter the park right away for instance?
You got to day
51 and didn't unlock any buildings. That's basically impossible and doubling down is only going to make your review look disingenuous. Everyone else that has actually played this game will immediately doubt your review.
You only need
20 sexual desire to unlock the massage parlour,
30 sexual desire to unlock the strip club, you only need
70 shame to unlock the studio. It's borderline impossible to not unlock these by day 51 unless
you're intentionally avoiding the porn in a PORN GAME. You could literally unlock every build here in 7 days if you wanted.
The only way you could have gotten this result is by intentionally avoiding interacting with the game's systems and avoiding all pornographic content
. You can't avoid the porn content in a porn game and simultaneously wonder where all the content is.
Are you in good faith telling me you can write a review on a game where you've only experienced a 1/10th of the content? Judging from what you've listed,
you didn't even unlock the basic sex scenes.
You know what reviews are for. To help others to gauge the quality of the game. If the game simply isn't to your taste and you haven't played a sufficient amount of the game, then you really shouldn't leave a review because you're poisoning the well by doing so.
The reason I didn't give it 4 stars was that I eventually ended up doing the same few things, day in, day out. I don't know about you, but I don't find that pacing particularly interesting.
Why play like that, then?
The game is paced so you can literally never repeat an event. I would know, I've tested this myself. At the start of the game you can access:
- Random Events
- LonelyFans
- Masturbating Scenes
- Purchase Porn
- Student Bar
- Pool
- Beach
- Yomo Estate
Better yet, you'll unlock new areas before you finish the above content, naturally opening the world up and drip-feeding the player more to do.
In addition to theabove points, there is a COMPREHENSIVE list of cheats that can enable you to skip anything and everything you want and play the game at your own pace.
As you pointed out, the game has scenes, but they take kinda long to unlock. It is also possible that I just didn't the play the game in the way that the game wanted you to play. But, the scenes take some time to unlock is alright if the gameplay towards that point is interesting, intriguing or at least just somehow appealing. I didn't find it either of that.
Okay, some scenes do take 'kinda long to unlock'. That's why you can:
- Buy Alcohol for immediate stat buffs
- Buy Aphrodisiac and combine it with Alcohol for giant stat buffs
- Buy Stat Books or Porn for increased sexual desire
- Use Cheats to alter your stats at any time if you're impatient
- Or you could just hold skip and farm your stats repeating almost any scene if you're so inclined. That said, it's totally unnecessary.
You did use these mechanics, right? It might be important for people that read your review and want a genuine analysis of the game.
I decided to boot up a new game and play completely normally. Here are my stats on day 8. Studio already unlocked and only $7 from getting that Swimsuit upgrade to access more Beach and Pool content. What on earth were you doing for 51 days? (The above game was also done with the Innocent Girl personality which lowers stat gain, and with only one quirk.)
Lastly, one thing I like about VN/Ren'py is their ability to provide a good story, deep characters and meaningful choices. While the writing isn't horrible, I didn't find the story to be particularly interesting. It's about a girl who has to pay tuition.. that's it - unless you want to tell me that I forgot some crucial info on that part. The characters aren't particularly deep either, unless you measure it in the depth between their legs. Hell, your boyfriend remains a shadow. Lastly, I don't remember the game giving me any interesting choices to pick from. Granted, some options would be unlocked as the desire rose and shame fell, but that only leads back to the loop of day-in-day-out of grinding some numbers up/down.
That's not what this kind of game is, and reviews aren't really supposed to be heavily genre-focused in F95zone. That'd be like going to a platformer game and leaving a bad review because it's a platformer. This isn't a story based game and it's not pretending to be one either.
You can't judge a game that never tried to be story based because you wanted there to be a story. There's no universal design philosophy and it's a fallacy to expect a game to meet those expectations.
There will never be any allusion to a story, writing or depth. It's a completely open experience designed to merely provide context for the player to experience lewd situations.
In short: I want more from a game than only scenes. If all I wanted was sex scenes, then I'd simply watch porn. Perhaps this game is very focused on the sex scenes and not much else. For like you said, the game has many scenes - and like I wrote in my review: the art is good. But as I mentioned above, I look for more in a game than only scenes.
Why would you spend your time reviewing a game if it's not your kind of game, then? That's not helping anyone.
Conclusion:
You booted up dark souls, played poorly, and then accused the game of being bad when you couldn't beat the first boss.
