Ok. That would reconcile what I was seeing on patreon. By mac version it must mean the steam version for mac.

It would also explain why when I tried to find a stand alone of MwM and only found Midnight Sin.

You're welcome and yes, that's correct. Faerin usually releases a Mac version on Steam when the game is released on their platform (once the game is complete), so the only way to get it for MacOS would be via Steam. And this game is also available for Windows and Mac on both Itch.io and Nutaku as well. Once it's been moved there, Faerin will leave it up on Patreon for the time being, at least until he starts working on a new game. Then that game goes strictly to Patreon until it too is complete. Sounds confusing, but that's the way it's been done the last 7 years.

Well, the main reason for using those two sites was due to Germany's laws when it came to adult games on Steam (USK ratings, IIRC). So since German players can't purchase the games there, Itch and Nutaku were set up as alternatives so those players can still enjoy the completed games.

I just finished the game and wrote a review. But I do have one genuine question I'd love to discuss with you guys, I just want to hear your thoughts about it. And that is...

As seen in many of the reviews, Mystwood Manor has an MC that is basically an idiot, who behaves in a very "weak" and insecure manner, and who has an (in my opinion) cringy anime-style inner monologue full of doubt. The MC apparently, again and again, refuses to recognize or accept that these women are interested in him and want to have sex.

The key question, which I honestly wonder about, is why do some devs make MCs that are seemingly so weak, riddled with self-doubt, and refusing to recognize the affections of women that are throwing themselves at him? Like, what is the intent here really?

The character doesn't even grow over time. The problem remains throughout the interactions with all the love interests.

My theory (and that's all it is, a theory) is that devs assume it'll make the MC easier to identify with.

Because, let's face it, most guys are insecure when dealing with women. And so you end up with these types of characters.

I think it's a miscalculation though, as most guys would rather identify with a stronger MC. It's not really much fun to project yourself in someone who is like you or even weaker.

My apologies, dyslexic, I did misread that part. Thought you were asking about the next game.

I didn't mind it personally, I have seen far worse, I was just happy he wasn't a teen. To be fair, he had a lot of other things on his mind (father's murder, running the business, supernatural stuff...). lol
Though, I will admit, most of my focus was making sure there were no bugs in the game itself.

I think, (we are all just spit balling here) stories and characters tend to want to fall into architypes that likewise tend to be a little hyperbolic to be identifiable and identified with.

I find the character's milktoastiness a little over the top but I am absolutely bored by the over confident guy easily dominating all the "bitches." There is a lot of that out there also. And like politics, sexual orientation and a lot of other things the character in the middle of a spectrum tend still be viewed as their opposite rather than something distinct and in the middle.

I don't know if you would agree but I think this characters continual shock goes across the board. Like every time his father shows up there are 3 or 4 buzzing dialogue screens. He has a very hard time going with a the flow in a smooth or competent way weather there are women involved or not. I think that they are trying to make him more relatable by making him clearly less than perfectly competent.

And I think he does, if not grow, at least catch on. As it progresses he realizes it is the fog and ghostiness influencing everyone and just rolls with it without the shock and by the final orgy he is absolutely comfortable and accepting of all the women wanting to have sex with him.

It goes okay up until the point where she leans against the mantel and he prepares to pound her from behind. At this point the image freezes on the still shown in the screenshot below.

What's weird is that the game doesn't technically crash, because I still get normal sound and *some* clicks work. For instance, I can move the speed slider up and down, though of course it doesn't do anything since there's no visible animation. Clicking on "AUTO" also works (the text changes color though there's no visible effect here either) and "HIDE" effectively hides the text box (though I'm then stuck with no way to make it come back). Hitting the ESC key also works, so I can load my save or quit the game fine.

Also note that it doesn't freeze at the point when the animation is supposed to start (ie when the slider appears) but several screens later, though throughout there's just a still image, so it really feels like there's an issue with the animation itself. Oh, and it always freezes on that same text screen.

This is the third time I've tried, and the third time it happened. Which means I'm stuck. Can't go beyond this scene.

Has anyone encountered this issue before and, more importantly, is there a workaround??

If you mean where did I get the game, I got it from here. Latest Windows version, either from Mixdrop or Workupload (I apparently clicked both links, but can't remember which I ended up using--it was a while back).

And yes, I've had no issues with animations (or anything else in this game) up until now.

No, I mean where did you install it? I assume that you have either put it into a system folder, or it is buried too many folders deep.
I would move the game folder to something like C:\Games as opposed to anything like the Desktop or Downloads folder.

Oh! Well, I don't have a lot of free space on my hard drive, so I actually run all my games from an external hard drive. Been working great up until now. And it's not buried that deep, just 4-5 folders. Hmm. You really think that could be the issue? I could try bumping it higher to see if it helps.

Huh. I just moved the game directly into the root folder of my usb drive and... it worked! I don't know why, but it did. I'd never have thought of trying this, heh.

Is it that the game has a limit to the number of subfolders it can dig into?

What baffles me is that it worked fine up until now. Is this particular animation located in a deeper folder?
