I think they meant to say that devs are allowed to deviate from the ration but shouldn't be surprised about people complaining when they do so {akin to making a movie primarily for horror buffs with a scene of political drama for the few serious cinema-goers in between}
I just think the Dev has to make the game he wants.
There are hundreds of games out there that have the 'lesbian' tag and that's not even 1% of the content. All that crying only happens in the reverse situation.

I don't know if you noticed, but he's talking about something that happened in his game thread, which happened to have the same people complaining about the lack of dicks, even though there was a big orange disclaimer.
The Straight stat in this game is for me to check if I'm following the right path. If any value other than 0 appears there, I load a previous save. Very useful!

This is a game where the main character, a girl, falls in love and starts to date another girl back in the first half of the first season. It's not exactly trying to "trick" anybody about its main content.

As I said: sexuality isn't black or white. Circumstances where I may enjoy sex with a man are quite niche and specific (I would never go on a date with one just to give a very soft example), and rare happenings. I don't feel any less lesbian since I never, in my 34 years of life, bonded emotionally with anyone who wasn't female. I never felt anything romantic towards a man for me the emotional aspect is way more important than the physical.
