Not gonna lie, I'm a little miffed Candore ended up like that - I thought she would've showed up again, powered up and pissed, ready to kick my shit in (as is Soulsborne tradition), but it looks like the dev thought otherwise. It's Shadow of Yhidra all over again.
I mean I knew soulsbornes were grimdark, but this just made me especially sad...
Night of Revenge goes out of its way to portray cruelty, evil, and tragedy. Why does a porn game have pages and pages of text specifically illustrating just how sadistically offenders have abused innocent women in heartbreaking ways?
[Ending Spoilers]
Our Aradia's final act of stabbing her own heart is the ultimate expression of what you do in this game. The cruelest fates are delivered to the most undeserving. Aradia has the chance to befriend these survivors in the church, yet the journal logs show us that they all end up getting tortured and raped. Of all Aradia's enemies, the noblest and purest suffer the most terrible fates.
Candore's fate is an experience that's actually *worse* observing for a second time. It really sinks in that she's *literally raped to death*, by the very people she devotes her whole life to protecting, who should be rescuing her in her vulnerable state.
Now I want to play Bullet Requiem to get deeper into the mind of the game's creator D-lis. Curiously, as gratuitous the visual depictions of graphic violence and assault are, it is vehemently anti-pornographic on a moral level.
In both games, you're specifically encouraged to and rewarded for rescuing other girls from being raped. You don't get a payoff of porn. You get game impacts that directly support the goals of your heroine.
Those who feel the greatest sorrow can receive the greatest joy. Those who have the least in the world can have the most gratitude. And those surrounded by the most evil can shine the most brightly living with a pure heart.
