Presently my pole grew stronger; irritating then no longer,
"D-lis," said I, "or Aradia, truly your forgiveness I implore;
But the fact is I was fapping, and so quiet you are adding;
And so saintly with no slacking, slacking at the censoring chore;
That I scarce was sure I heard you"—here I opened wide your forum;—
Darkness there and nothing more.
-"The Night of Revenge" part four; by Edgar Coomer Poe
Ah, this excerpt was also one of my favorites!! I found it fascinating how scholarly consensus for most of the 1900s had been that Coomer Poe suffered from erectile dysfunction due to all his fapping, but more modern Poeologists posit that it's not the fapping itself, but the use of rape porn that served as the root cause.
I actually chose my sophomore year final essay on the topic of whether Coomer Poe
really had erectile dysfunction and what its true cause was! There are even some minority views that Coomer Poe developed some other ailments from his experiences with NighTofRevenge, but most academics avoid that uncomfortable topic.
Personally, I am touched by the mystery and wonder of the "Aradia Lee" character depicted in Coomer Poe's works, especially later in life. Who was she? Why did she only wear one glove? Where did she store her weapon when not using it to attack or defend? Did she prefer strawberry cheesecake or chocolate, and what college major might she choose?
It truly speaks to the mystical nature of the poetic medium, that such heartfelt emotion can be expressed about this person, yet truly revealing still so little about her. Was Coomer Poe a generational talent whose work was heavily founded upon the people and experiences surrounding him? Or was this "Aradia Lee" person truly so special, that she could have inspired artwork more beauteous than High Inquisitor Candore herself, from lowlifes more vulgar than the drunkards of Ragdum?
