You probably changed the wrong variables, there are multiple for each stat.
To be fair, the cheat menu is very generic in nature. Anything game-specific or more advanced is supposed to be an addon.

very nice game. probably the best rpgm ive played in awhile...any ideas when this dev will release a new project?

I also have this problem. Game v1.0 before patching works. But if I apply the patch, the game is not starting - only black screen appears and after a while this error message.
