I think most people think the way you think about the events vs the gameplay but personally, I enjoy the gameplay a lot and wish they did a gameplay outcome-focused update only, as I think there are too few outcomes despite a lot of the game being about adding stats for Noemi and the girls, which makes it less rewarding for now at least. As of now, they add a few outcomes in almost every update.I don't know, I think the amount of money made on Patreon is probably a better indicator of success than the amount of discussion here. And I write that as someone who doesn't even like corruption games like the ones listed here.
As for the general argument, and this is just my perspective, I feel the bigger issue with this game is that it doesn't clear have a clear identity. As much as I don't personally enjoy those corruption games used as an example, with them you know the game you are about to play. There are games that focus more on character development and going for that slower burn, but even with them then that is the focus. Here, there is a cafe management mechanic at the heart of the game that doesn't really connect at all with Noemi's personal storyline from a gameplay perspective. In addition, based on just the minigames and the initially announced focus, I still think it would have been more than fair to think this is a lesbian game, which is fine, but it really isn't even if it has that optional path.
I made earlier a comment on how befuddled I was by the use of development resources on this game. As I'm writing this and thinking more on it, I do genuinely feel that initial direction hinders game as it robbed it of that clear identity which I think is really important with any kind of game.
I think that aspect of the game is only going to "make sense" when it is close to completion as the particular scenes would be more randomized every single time, whereas right now you mostly get the same outcomes depending on your stats. This has more to do with how the development is being done, which is "character-arc focused" for now. I think the identity is pretty clear, but the only thing is that the gameplay content is on the back foot of the development while the character stories are progressing.
I do agree it feels desynchronized right now, hopefully, the Sal arc allows for that transition of the girls doing more stuff within the restaurant, as that is something I want as well. The restaurant part right now feels secondary.
