A list of comments, some of which have already been addressed, but I still want to add to the chorus:
Thanks for the detailed feedback :)

1: Most importantly, I think I have a bug. I just finished "listening" to the podcast about Jen's game that we discussed in text messages. (...) When I exit the podcast, I am shunted back to the first "free roam" of the apartment back at the beginning of the game. (...)
Sometimes renpy is weird. No one ever mentioned that bug… but there is indeed one, resulting from me being a dumbass and copy pasting the logic from that first roaming moment and forgettting about one line of code. But that line shouldn’t even have been triggered, or maybe in only fringe cases, that’s why this is the first time I hear about it. Sorry about that.

Find the fix attached. In the folder “game” replace your scripts.rpa folder with this one. You need to load a savefile before the bug happened. In the save games, try the “A” tab, you might find there an autosave more recent than your actual one. With this you should be able to proceed and finish the chapter. Really sorry for the inconvenient.

2: On the chess note, absolutely loving it. Interesting games and good commentary. I even got to feel smart when I knew pushing the pawn and rook was the correct play during the bet. (I am horrible at chess.) Though, you're treading dangerous ground. Someone out there has a chess fetish, and they're going to be upset if Jen and MC don't play a game that ends with innuendo and Jen drawing attention to herself and her body while holding a captured piece. ;)
You just converted me into a chess fetishist... I might have to make a scene like that just for my own satisfaction, even if no one else appreciates it.

On a more serious note, I am surprised I have had so many supportive comments regarding the chess content. I thought it would be something that everyone would skip over.

3: On the subject of fetishes, I appreciate your post in the smoking thread.
I had seen the thread a few times and had wondered if I should post or not. I can imagine there’s not that much content for you guys and some of it might even be half assed… which is why I was a bit reticent because I knew I could have put more care into it. I’ll investigate ways to make smoke that looks good in future scenes and also make a few more variations of the act, like inhaling and such.

For the poses it’s a mix of both things: it’s very hard/time consuming to make a pose from the ground up in daz, I always start with something pre-made, even if it is just the seating pose and then go from there. There was a lot of tweaking with fingers, hand and mouth to make it look good enough, but I think it was okay in in the end. Although, I think you are right, it would have been better to made them hold the joint more accurately.

4: And finally, what would a post on this thread be without concern over how a relationship will play out? (...) The problem is that MC (and thus, the player) must make a stupid, unethical decision to have this relationship happen. Which means MC (and thus, the player) must face some serious negative consequences for this relationship. (...) Basically, I can handle the route being rough, but I don't want to set myself up for guaranteed misery porn.
There needs to be a balance. In one hand, since the beginning of the game that I try to stick to the mantra that “there are no wrong choices”. There needs to be some way for the player to chase their favorite girl, without getting massively penalized for it. But there also needs to be consequences for the choices taken, which means it won’t be all smooth sailing (otherwise it would even lose the "forbidden/secret love" aspect of it). But I think it will be something you can handle and not consider misery porn.

Also, some typos, filenames say it all:
Thanks, I’ll add these to the list. I’ve been informed about a few more typos and all of them will be corrected in the next major update later this month.

Thanks for the detailed feedback :)
You're welcome. Thank you for your detailed responses to everyone in this thread; reading your thoughts on design and writing has been rewarding in itself.
Find the fix attached.
Thanks, worked like a charm.

I can't speak for everyone in the smoking thread, but for myself, I know it's a niche fetish that also actively offends people, so I tend to grateful for what I can get. So I appreciate any effort you make to be better, but I also don't expect perfection. I do get pissy when a creator's storytelling is flawed and I am led to believe there will be more content than ends up being present. You're good on this score: from the game itself so far, I consider the scene you made a nice bonus to a good game, and see no particular reason to expect more.

Hmm, maybe I wasn't clear. It wasn't okay, it was GOOD. Your tweaking paid off. Also, while once again acknowledging I'm just one dude*, I think the hold style you used appeals to more smoking fetishists than the pinch grip generally depicted with pot smoking. Though if you want to change it for accuracy purposes, I understand that.

This sounds good.

*I'm actually going to go make a poll in the smoking thread. If you're curious, take a look in a few days?

Thanks for the kind words.

When I said the scene was “good enough”, I meant it in the same way that all scenes in the game need to be “finished” when they look “good enough” to me. There’s always a difference between what I envision and what comes out. This can be because of the available environments, props, my laptop shiting itself when more than 2 characters are in the same scene so there’s very little “background action” going on, lack of talent to better pose/light/modify a scene, or lack of time because the next update needs to be ready around a certain date.

This is more important on lewd scenes, but is relevant to all of them. Once someone pointed out to me how in a scene the characters kept drinking beer but the glass was always full… that would be nice in real life! :p At some point a guy needs to say "good enough" and move on to the next scene, hoping that it indeed looks good to the players, even if not perfect. I’m glad you think that particular scene looks good, that's the goal!

I’ll keep an eye on the thread, thanks! (y)

Once in a while I spend some time “researching” these kinds of threads to check what fans of a particular fetish are saying about how it is represented in the games around here. I don’t have time to play other games myself anymore, so that helps me to understand what is done well, what isn’t, and how to avoid common mistakes.

Fell asleep to this game 3 times and I haven't even been introduced to all the characters yet :ROFLMAO:

Not calling the game boring because I like the transitions and music but :HideThePain:

One of my biggest pet peeves is when a game doesn't really give you a choice or the illusion of choice and instead you're just supposed to go with the flow

There's all these options presented to you on how your choices might affect character and whatnot

But there's no option to just bluntly tell a character you're not interested or you don't wanna do that thing

You can sound manly, cunning, soft and everything but you're basically forced to interact/help/pretend to care about every character no matter the choice

Feels like I'm just playing somebody else's save

Meh

Great music tho :LUL:

This is rather well-written, not just in relative to other Renpy games but in general. I'll be watching this.

Chapter 3 is out on !

Release Notes

The script of this chapter has more than 9000 lines of code, where the previous two had around 7000. A lot of this increase is due to alternative choices and dialogues. So, a single playthrough should still take roughly the same time of the previous chapters (1h to 2h maybe?).

Besides the new story content, this update also brings some small quality of life improvements:

  • New game +: this allows blind and relax mode to be played from the very start of the game;
  • Blind mode now also properly hides texting and real-time menu choices;
  • Blind mode now randomizes the order of the given choices (normally, for consistency, there is a defined order between personality choices, which could spoil the answers);
  • The chess board interface now allows to invert sides while watching the games;
Android:

Unfortunately, the android port is giving me some issues that I can’t fix at the moment. When I install it in my test device, it simply doesn’t run. During the weekend I’ll investigate the problem and see if I can fix it. My apologies for anyone that was awaiting especially for this version.

Testing:

Each update is getting longer and more complicated to test. I feel like I’ll need some help beta-testing soon. As of now, since we are still a small community, I’ll just release this version and hope that you’ll forgive me if there are any bugs. This update brings some branching to the story and also a few new features. I think everything is okay and working as expected, but if you find any bug/error/strange thing happening, please let me know.

Same for the proofreading. I’m not a native speaker and this update's script is substantially bigger than the last ones. Which means that is getting harder and more time consuming to properly check the script several times for mistakes. I feel like this update might have more spelling mistakes than usual.

If anyone wants to help proofreading, just please take note of any mistake you find along the way and send them to me (comments, PM, or email: mrsilverlust@gmail.com, whatever works best for you.). I'd really appreciate that.

Hope you enjoy the update. Cheers.

This was an awesome chapter MrSilverLust! So many highlights:

I do have two, minor points of criticism:

Still, those are only minor points. Congrats on the release, and I'm already looking forward to chapter 4 :)

Good update! Bug-wise, apart from typos the status report at the end of chapter 3 says the player declined Deb's challenge no matter which option was picked.

There's an uncaught exception that prevents the Mac version from opening, Silver. No big deal... these things happen:

Thanks for info. There is a patch on patreon now. It was also the issue with the android port, so that one should also be up later today.

Thanks everyone for the feedback, I'm glad to know it’s mostly positive so far. Later, when I have more time, I’ll discuss in more detail your points. Thanks Turpitudinous for the bug report, I’ll look into that.

Aways a small advance on the girls department, as every version had one good scene with one girl.
Then the whimsical literal planning board for visiting many places and get your stats up.
Seems like MC is expected to teach or improove chess rather than the players of the game.
Yeah, nutritionists or personal trainers are not supposed to beat their trainees at business or chess.

Quite a small update in my opinion for such long development time.
What??? o_O Totally disagree with you. Didn't take the exact time while playing, but definitely took me at least 2-3 hours to play through it. I think development time is around 3-4 months. Don't know many devs who would produce more (quality) content in a shorter amount of time.
