At the end of the day, if the people who pirate your game truly are fans, they'll receive a wakeup call when they see "[Abandoned]" next to this game's name. (Which I hope never happens).
Yeah that's uh not the main reason a game ever gets abandoned. The way I see is that there is 3 main reasons for why a game gets abandoned(and not just because of F95zone policy).
1. Lack of profitability, I'm talking like the guy went in thinking his passion project will reap in the big bucks, and be his main source of income. And then it turns out that his hopes were way too high and the money never truly flew in so they decided to abandon the project because passion was not their main goal it was money. Now I won't fault them for wanting money, daddy has got to eat after all. But these projects usually last for months and are dropped quickly.
2. Milking, something that this project could be argued for, not that I would. They mainly exist to give minor updates of them working a project to their patron with some "sneak previews" that don't really amount to much while they use all the money they earn for hobbies or living with the promise of "soon". A few games have even started with regular updates and frequent discussion but have ended up in this state after quite some time of development. Unlike the other 2 this one isn't truly abandoned, it's just unlikely to ever produce any meaningful future content.
3. Real life issues, maybe their family found out or they just can't justify using their free time on this anymore. It's a bummer but it's an expected concern, not many people can waste years of their life on something that they will never finish. And the awkward feeling when your family finds out that you work on porn, and don't support it can ruin family gatherings for years to come.

None of these are remotely related to piracy, although you could argue the first one is. But I've yet to see solid proof of piracy actively killing a project, only that it tends to be the very easy to use as a scapegoat. Piracy is probably the only crime one can commit that doesn't actually cause any damage to anyone, a publisher/developer can get mad because someone posted a torrent of their stuff, but they didn't really lose anything. Perhaps they don't gain as much as they could if there was no freebooting, but they never lose because of it.
