my greatest failing as a member of this forum is being on med benefits and not being able to financially support games i appreciate...if my lot in life was better i'd have supported this one..alas...positive reinforcement good words and thumbs up do not pay the bills for the dev's..so i understand it..but am sad when something i was immersing into goes poof

Sorry, but I don't buy VN's from Steam because they neuter them of all the content I want in my VN's.

Steam changed their policy this summer, letting any kind of content being diffused. Not that it really change something since anyway the team want to release a none adult game on Steam.

Okay, guys, it's time for some real talk. As creators, we're having some problems with Obrenor, and we've been trying to think creatively to fix that, but it's just... not working. I'm not going to bore you with all the details, but here are the relevant bits.
1) We're not happy with the adult/pornographic angle we've been pursuing here. There are a variety of reasons for this, but the important thing is that we want to move away from the pornographic stuff.

2) We want to make some major changes to our coding, mechanics, and gameplay that will probably take a lot of time.

3) Our "proof of concept" goal since our Patreon launched has been 300/month and we're nowhere near that, with no sign of getting there anytime soon. This sucks, but we're just not making enough money to justify the amount of work we're doing on an end product we don't love.

So, there's the reasoning, and here's the fallout:

We're releasing Chapter 4a today for everyone, which gives everyone time to download that content and cancel their subscription before it renews, if they want.

The next release, 4b, is the date with Simone, which is fully written but not rendered yet. If you guys stick around for another couple weeks, you'll get that content too when it's done (and, spoiler alert: that date ends well).

After that, unfortunately, we'll be taking the Patreon down and there won't be any more Obrenor. If, by some miracle, that 300/month appears in the meantime, we'll keep working on this as an adult VN, but that seems pretty unlikely.

We are going to keep working on this story, but probably with a title change and a different studio name. We'll eventually re-launch it as a non-adult game, probably via Steam and with some significant changes to the gameplay. If you care about the story without the sexy parts, let us know and we'll figure out how to keep you in the loop about that.

We're really sorry for disappointing you guys, and we appreciate all the support you've given us, but we just can't keep doing something that costs us so much time, energy, and money without at least feeling like we're making the game we want to be making.

So we're sorry, and thank you, and that's all we can really say.

No way is he going to make anywhere near the money he is currently making if it goes SFW. Aside from DDLC (which was free), Western SFW VN market is kinda dead.

Should've been patient and the money will eventually come. Can't really expect $300/month when the game's 30-60mins long with one sex scene and one BJ scene. I'm no dev but from what I've observed, it's the initial stages that are always hardest since the income is slow but you'll have to endure the hardship till the game garners more popularity + funds.

I'm sad because I liked the medieval, fantasy theme this game had and was going to pledge after the story developed a bit further. Regardless, I wish the Dev success in his future endeavors ensive:

Well that sucks, I actually like this VN quite a bit, it seem quite original, the art is great and the story is great, so this is unfortunate :/

But then again, I understand the economic side of it, and from what I've seen, not making a whole lot of mone and not gaining enough support is a fate of many developers, and some of them actually would deserve to have more support than what they have, like the DEVs of Obrenor.

dr pinkcake started a game it got posted here..acting lessons..as word of mouth slowly spread his patreon's kept growing and growing..it took time..but like Obrenor his game is a long well told story...we just need more word of mouth for this game ...such as being able to say on other posts.."well if you love this game for the story and long game..you'll love Obrenor also" but it isnt good manners to talk about other games on threads..lol

1. you do realize the western styled VN market is a close to dead market right? Specially on steam.
2. Can do that all on the side, dunno with how many you are but have the mechanical 1 work on mechanics etc on the side, but keep main story going for main game and later date, merge it over as seen fit.
3. Cannot expect a 300 a month on Patreon with just those weak genres like:
Tags: 3dcg fantasy male protagonist oral sex.
Top paying perverts on patreon are Furry, incest mindcontrol and transformation to my knowledge, now for some of those the patreon is being a dick, but just do not mention that on the patreon page. Ergo add a couple of furries and add some good incest and you get some (more)attention. or even a unoffical uncensor patch (like the Sexual VN's even do on steam)

for incest you could actually add a mother, who still loves her youngest son or a younger sister who has a hard time seeing the family tear apart.

Vaginal, anal, m/f/f, harem (examples) etc. add some more to the game, you don't evn have to do it instantly , even as planned future features it gets attention.

again, western Visual novels hard to do hard to get attention. I would suggest against that.

Well, if you did, that would help them out, and if they reach their goal, which isn't that huge actually, then perhaps they would stay with the project and continue this road.

So, the game is started and released 3 months ago, and the dev is sad it's not making the big bucks on patreon? Started to develop an adult game but don't want to make an adult themed game?

It just sounds very immature and someone got bored when their attempt to cashgrab didn't pay off.
