So, the game is started and released 3 months ago, and the dev is sad it's not making the big bucks on patreon? Started to develop an adult game but don't want to make an adult themed game?

It just sounds very immature and someone got bored when their attempt to cashgrab didn't pay off.
I think that whole comment of yours is immature. You act like it's wrong wanting to make at least a little bit of money for the work and effort you put out. It's not easy to come up with a reasonably original story, it takes a lot of time to render and so forth, you don't think DEVs got life outside games? They too need to pay their bills, you know? If this made enough money, they could even quit their day job and focus purely on this as their job, that sort of stuff.

A lot of the successful devs started as small projects and worked their way up. I don't belive anyone made 300$/month on patreon after 3 months and this amount of content. Some people work on a book for 10 years as a side project in hopes of selling big, not 3 months and saying it doesn't pay enough

Some do, some don't, depends if they get enough word-to-mouth advertisement or not, most don't, but some lucky ones do. These guys would deserve it but haven't, at least not yet, but maybe that could yet be salvaged, I for one would support them financially if I possibly could, unfortunately I can't, but I do try to spread the word though, I do that for various games/developers, which is as good as money.

if they are looking to stop the project and arent enjoying the project why would i support them now
They would keep working on it if they were supported enough. Maybe they would even be up for suggestions, I don't know.

have they said that? i know they said one of their reasons was they didn't make the goal they were aiming for which my single donation wont even get them any near and a lot of their patrons have already dipped and im not interested in the game they are going to make since they are abandoning the current direction

"After that, unfortunately, we'll be taking the Patreon down and there won't be any more Obrenor. If, by some miracle, that 300/month appears in the meantime, we'll keep working on this as an adult VN, but that seems pretty unlikely."

But they did state that they're just not loving the project, and usually that means that dev(s) would dip it or rush it to the end, and haste often results in poorer quality.

But yeah I don't know, I just personally like this VN, even if it's not filled with lewd stuff, it's just that the story is there.

That's pretty sad because it was a good game with fun story.
Yeah, it certainly was :/ Well, I do hope that their luck will turn to the better so that they could keep working on this, maybe even take it to the direction that they would like, although, it would still need to remain an AVN, haha.

This game was promising. I didn't mind less porn for more romance and story, but I also think not having the porn at all would be a misstep.

Anyway, of course I get that as a dev you want to earn some money, but the point is you also have to deliver.

In a way they did, they released their updates, however small, but they probably failed to give the people what they want.

FE. I liked the VN, but never felt compelled to invest in it, the story while okay wasn't great, the updates were rather on the short side and the sex scenes while written okay, were lacking the oomph and more importantly the right amount of renders or animations. In a world with dozens if not hundred adult games on patreon, you have to deliver on all fronts, not just one sortish.

Look at the romance/sex in Depraved Awakening, Acting Lessons, Where the Heart Is etc.. that's how sex and romance scenes should be, you don't need as much as those games, and you might not even need them each update, but quality wise it should at least be on that level IMO.

I'm sad to see this go, but if there was really a drive behind the devs, a real willingness, I don't think they would have given up so easily after such a short time.

This just screams mercenary to me, including the whole not wanting to do an adult game while doing and adult game.
Screams of trying to cash in on what seems successful and then it's no surprise if it doesn't work.

I might be too harsh here, but I look at guys like Brightsun Studios who also don't make a lot of money but who ahve already finished games and when addressing the problem don't think of giving up but instead of ways to attract more patreons.

I'm actually in a real bind, while playing this game I think I've already fallen heavily for Simone and I don't want to be interested in any other characters. She is gorgeous..... and out of my league... and not real. Dammit.
As a young prince(king in training) he should be forming a harem. What I'm trying to say is it's too hard to choose just one so why not have them all?

Ok just to end the discussion as a dev myself and having read through their statement as to why they're shutting down their goal was clearly the money and not the project. The fact they started it as an adult game and are now complaining about it only a couple months later means that was a money motivated decision; they thought porn would get them money faster and when it didn't they're whining about it. Add to that the fact they offer to keep working on it as an adult game if they suddenly get the money they wanted further supports the idea they're just in it for the paycheck since if their goal was really the project they'd do as many others have and scale back production to meet their current income with hopes the further good work would increase support. Hell they don't even seem to have tried to market the game much as is since they don't have it up on any of the indie "Steam-like" platforms which unlike Steam typically have no upfront fees and take a significantly smaller cut of the profits. Frankly it seems like these guys are like the underpants gnomes with a plan of 'Phase 1: patreon porn, Phase 2: ?, Phase 3: profit'.

On top of all that they have no clear plan for the future beyond "give us what we felt we deserved before we even started and we'll keep working on it even though we claim to hate what we're doing". Ya they say they'll work to remake it as a regular VN probably via Steam with a new name for both the game and studio but I can pretty much guarantee that will never happen. Doing so would mean they'd have to do even more work to strip most to all of the adult content and replace it before they could even submit it to Steam which would not only cost them more time and energy with absolutely zero income to show for it assuming they hold to their claim of shutting down their patreon but also money for the Steam Direct submission fee (which would be basically everything they've made via patreon to date plus a little extra) to get it on a platform where they're guaranteed no more support than what they're already getting and it's even more likely to get lost in the shuffle.

Oof I should've read the comments before I got hyped. This news made me so sad I had to cancel my download. I was falling in love with Simone and now the mean old devs are taking her away.
Well atleast I'll have the memories.

Such a shame. A very promising story indeed. But it's a jungle out there, and it's a whole lot of work to gather support these days, which giving up so soon won't do a thing to improve. Ah well ...
