Well, this is going to be a disappointing update. My PC (or specifically my hard drive) decided to give up at the wrong time and I've ended up losing almost everything related to the game. Since I'm an idiot, I didn't have an online backup for my files/renders so everything's pretty much back to square one.

The renpy stuff is easier to download since it's uploaded here but the hundreds of gigs of SFM files are a hassle to setup, and my track record for working on this game isnt the best. I'll probably stop working on it for now and maybe just shift to making posters and stuff.

Apologies to people who were looking forward to the game/update. I dislike abandoned projects, and working on this was pretty fun + I learned alot in a year so it sucks even more. I might pick it up again in the future, but I'd rather not give false hope so if anyone wants to take over the project/is interested in the story that was planned, feel free to send me a message.

There's more then just needing to know how to code. You need to know how to code - how to pose - how to animate - how to set up scenes characters and lighting. Next you need to find hundreds of gigs of SFM files and set them up.

Is there any chance of this getting revived someday?
Probably not this year :( I might start working on it again in the future, but I'd rather not make any promises.

For sure. Plus I have no idea why, but lights in SFM are an absolute nightmare. I still don't know what half of the settings do, and sometimes they just reset and crash sfm as a huge middle finger. Still loved it though, making posters is fun. I had a few WiPs still saved so here's a few images that would've been in the update.

An ability to write helps lol

Hoping for an update as well.
This was thus far one of my favorite parody of RE, especially story mechanic wise

Anyone here know any lust virus game that's actually gotten some more content and doesn't lead to a game over everytime? All I could find are ones abandoned early into development. Bonus points if it's zombie-themed.
Zilf Next Door is okay. If you do play it don't forget to also download a pre-Sandbox update version since he didn't port every scene over.

still checking in case this game miraculously gets an update
ngl seeing the corruption and mind control stuff in the new resident evil 4 remake is really making me wish this parody was still ongoing
The dude says on his profile he's still working on it as a side project. So an update will probably come in a couple years.

where? the only one i could find on their profile saying that is from april 2022 which was before their hard drive failed and kinda screwed up the chances of this game getting an update
Oh yeah. I forgot this was 2023.

Yeah, I stopped working on it after my hard drive failed :( I made a few SFW games instead which was pretty fun.

I might start working on this again this summer, but I'd rather not use sfm or blender like I used to. Haven't tried daz3d but switching would mean the models not being similar to their RE counterparts.

The game would lose its RE appeal but with the whole copyright issue, that might be a good thing.

There was a copyright issue? There really shouldn't be, as this would fall under parody or satire. Course, I'm not familiar with international law (if you're outside the US), but there are plenty of porn games which use copyrighted characters. Just look at Akabur: the dude makes profit off of parody characters from Disney, one of the most notoriously litigious companies around.

It's pretty random. I've seen a few 3D modellers/posers getting DMCA'd while others haven't. Might have something to do with their country's own law since I've seen disney sue some fan/parody game creators right at the start of development, while leaving more famous ones alone for years. Capcom's not like disney as far as I know, but theres still a small chance of getting striked.

Just a note, there are plenty of DAZ models which look like the RE women. Here are Jill and Claire, for example:

And here's Excella:

There is also an entire forum here dedicated to giving out DAZ content.

And let me know if you'd like any help. I only have basic experience with Blender, but I work with Python by trade. Your code looks simple enough that you could just write the script/images and I can plug it in.

Thanks, those will help a ton! A helpful guy here at F95 sent a similar artist's deviant page that had RE models. I used a lot of them as references for the remake but some of them (primarily claire and ashley ones) had weird facial features. I'll give the ones you linked a try and see if I can use them!

As for coding help, I changed the gameplay from the typical VN choice menu stuff to a point and click one, but I'm still having trouble with puzzles. I haven't started coding them in yet, but puzzles like (RE4 spoilers)

are what I have in mind. Any idea how to go about implementing these since they're 3D rotations? The second one seems more straightforward by just rendering each face separately, but not so sure about the first one.

Anyway, aside from that, I'm almost done with the models I'll be using in case anyone's curious. Here's a sneak peek at two of them.

I'm not really familiar with the limitations of Renpy, but I assume it's limited to purely sequential states (one image, then the next and so on). Given that, procedural 3d rendering like that (which honestly was an annoying task in REmake4) is probably out of scope. I think your assumption is the best bet, though Google would be your friend here. It's the answer to all my issues when implementing new things. There are several tutorials on how to implement 3d rendering in Python, but the real issue is Renpy limitations.
Your current puzzles (the chess and date-deduction) were fine and much better as actual puzzles, in my opinion. The object interaction from RE4 was just a time-waster (it's literally a toy we give to kindergartners and younger).

Edit: Also, an artist called 3Dzen does a series that's basically the same idea as your game (though with much lower quality narrative/writing), and he has some great looking DAZ models for the RE women (despite also suffering the "not quite the same" issue).

Personally I didn't mind the toy puzzles in RE4, but I understand how they can be frustrating. I was mainly doing those 3d rotation/projection puzzles as callbacks to the RE ones (like the shadow/13579 puzzles in 7). For now, I'll focus on making puzzles similar to the chess/date ones, but maybe abit more interactive.

I think I've seen his older comics, his Jill model's improved alot! I probably wont directly use models that are extremely similar (outfits, hairstyle) cause of the copyright stuff mentioned before, but using them as references is nice.

Just to vent, but the most frustrating part about all this is finding good hair assets since alot of the ones in DAZ have compatibility issues with Blender, and DAZ is a pain if you dont have an nvidia gpu.
