Why do you bring sophistry into this? It doesn't matter what it means to you. What matters is that its one of the most basic narrative tools implemented in the majority of games to great effect. Why do you think most people watch porn if not to associate themselves to the fucking characters on one way or another?
Yeah, not everyone of us mouth breathers has your esteemed taste.
Dude, why are you singling out harem? It's just a variation. There is also collection and conquest, the former which this game goes a bit. The appeal of this game is that Ian has not one, but several love interests which he can pursue depending on the players choice. Whenever one appears, he can potentially bond with them. That has nothing to do with harem.
Holy hell, snowflake mode on eh? You are taking a storytelling theory stance on a simple issue. Not everyone plays games the same way is my whole point, regardless of what you think. If I'm getting this right, you think I shouldn't play any way but the way you think I should, or how the storytelling gods say, and not self-inserting is the wrong way? I'm not ignorant to how storytelling works, but that was never the issue. I'm sure I have self-inserted in my life, but I don't play this or any game I can remember like that, just like I don't watch a movie or play mmos like that, does that make me an enemy of the media state?
My "esteemed taste", wtf does that even mean? Are you telling me that trying to clarify my personal life experience in gaming and vocabulary with my friends and aquaintances is making you feel, what? I have no idea here. You can play whatever and however you want, I believe in you do you.
I didn't compare ORS to a harem game or single it out just because. I was admitting I am not with the majority about that type of game, and illustrating why I don't like harem games, subjectively. I have played them and they are not for me. Futher, the vitriol I have witnessed from the loud, possibly minorty portion of the harem game player base that freaks out when there is even the slightest chance another npc might touch a LI, is strange to me, in a scary way. You cannot be blind to that happening can you? I actually worry about how those people deal with real life issues, like relationships, working, stress, etc. These types of attitudes lead to a number of serious social issues for those individuals and the people around them, and I'm serious here, not making fun.
I am done trying to express a viewpoint on this issue, take from this what you will.
