Dev Diary 95

Hello all, TD here.

Currently Ch4Up6 sits at a total of 1,562 static images, 36 animations, and 33,073 words.

That means we have added 222 statics images, 1 animation, and 2,911 words since our last report 2 weeks ago.

Nothing exciting to report as we're still trucking along, whiling down scene after scene of the free roam, currently entrenched in the third and "final" stage before things move back to the normal format and onto the exhibition games proper. It has been a ton of fun figuring out how everything connects, what moves where after each event, and so on after every event. The change of pace has been invigorating, a good reminder of the joy of learning new things and improving old, and has required me to work even more closely with GIL than usual. Yet, I also find myself looking ahead, and getting even more excited about what’s to come.

Hot damn, I love writing smut.

Anyway, you can tell by the numbers that this will end up being a doozy of an update. Thank you everybody for the support. I hope you all are even a fraction as excited as I am.

We seem to be in the swing of things now. TD and GIL have added an average of roughly 111 static images, 0.5 animations, and 1456 words per week in the 14 days since the last dev diary. Overall, that gives them an average rate of 87 statics, 2.0 animations, and 1852 words per week since work on Chapter 4 Update 6 began. Here are the charts for Week 18:

Not too much to add this time. We're a bit low on animations for this point in the cycle by historical standards, but that's probably due to the random distribution of animations throughout a given update's timeline. I expect the animation numbers will jump up fairly soon. Other then that, things seem to be moving along as expected even if there's still a lot of work left. I doubt I'm as excited about the Exhibition as TD is (what with me being a bleeding-heart softy), but I'm definitely exciting about the update nonetheless.

Realized I didn't give a proper response. Thought I would try to word my question better and give my thought process behind it.

Well my train of thought on it is, throughout the game you have the chance to increase Mina's Bi curious score. Bi being the the sexual attraction to male and female (or whatever the new definition is).

If you choose to have the threesome with Felicia and Mina, you only increase her Bi curious score. However, if at the rock show you choose to have her go flirt with Veronica, they make a point to add [Lesbian Push]. (I think that was on the dialogue option) Not an increase to bi curious points, not even a bi sexual push, establishing her as actually bi now instead of only curious. So with the use of lesbian, that being a woman that is sexually attracted to the same sex, it to me feels like maybe that is a way to close off her path without pushing her onto a man. Hell setting up a romantic relationship between her and Veronica. For me when I played through, I was fine with the threesome with Felish cause as Mina's friend, she would be a good person to use to knock an item on the list but I didn't go with pushing her towards Veronica cause that felt like it would be plausible that that would lead to romantic feelings for the two. I might be looking into it too much but I feel with using the term "lesbian" they imply the MC won't actually be a part of it and it gives an "acceptable" relationship for a LI to be in, instead of her just being single or with Ian. Which was mainly why I was asking here.

I might be putting too much stock in the difference between Bi and Lesbianism, I know the tag is kind of weird on F95, but I assume the devs were pretty intentional with the use of lesbian instead of bi.

With Hana talking about giving men a break and Mina thinking about it, maybe this is the option for ppl that are pursuing another LI but don't want to see her with another male character.

And I was mainly making a joke with that response, but she would hardly be the first person to realize they aren't straight after coming out of a relationship or during one. She is 19, wouldn't be unheard of for her to realize her attraction to the opposite sex and lose interest in men. But again that was just words thrown together in a joking way.
Only TD knows for certain, but I think the odds of us being able to drive Mina away from men entirely are virtually nil (well, maybe after the game is over if we do enough damage...). The reason for the [Lesbian Push] tag is to indicate to the player that the decision will have future consequences. "Lesbian Push" was presumably shorter and catchier than "Lesbian push that still leaves Mina firmly on the male side of bi."

I wouldn't read more into it than that.

That's not Sophia, is she? Unless it's some sort of a flashback her hair is way too long.
I assume that's Cassandra, whom we haven't really met yet.

That, and it's a nod that the scene is Mina rolling solo dolo / doesn't include Edwin.

All I know is the next update is probably gonna make me feel bad. Guys, I don't think I am cut out to be a sociopathic sadist. Help manage prostitutes? Sure. Help with the Kathy's fucked up exhibition? I kind of suck at that.
I feel the same. My favourite part of the game is everything outside the exhibition. I do not like that Kathleen and I do my best to go against her.

Yeah I see that part as a job and a way to put me in Edwins shoes. Experience the conflict of having to work there or whatever. How much can I (as Edwin) take or stomach. How much will it effect the relationships Ive tried to have Edwin build with the carnations and what not. Like it adds that conflict to the game, that drama. So I dislike the exhibitions because they aren't for me, but I like that they add that dynamic to the story, If you get what I mean.

I'm sure week 3 will be hard to do if you are trying to keep the job and friendships. Maybe. Someone is gonna get upset.

But then what's their to even fall for in this game? It's kinda mandatory to fall for those girls if you want to continue playing this game except Felicia maybe.

And btw did you just said the carnations situation is NTS for Edwin?
Funny cause Felicia is the one I kind of started to fall for after the art exabit and the night at her favorite spot lol

I kind of meant it more as if you hate ntr or sharing or whatever then just be sure not to fall for the, as Kathleen would put it, "whores" and you should be fine.

And no I wouldn't say it is technically NTS but I don't really know much about that beyond it is sharing. Felicia might be Netori depending on their direction. I mean Edwin isn't in a relationship with any of them atm and you are shown early on what might happen with them during the exhibition, so maybe there will be "sharing" with them, I am referring to the usb Kathleen gives Edwin that has the last carnations having a train ran on them.

And well isn't it sharing even if it is with female characters? You can share with Ian, Kathleen uses a massive dildo on Veronica. Week two punishment involves the carnations playing with each other. With Hana and Mina, you can avoid a lot of the stuff, but with the carnations, due to their circumstances, they might end up having to get with other ppl was my point. They are trying to win and have shown that they are willing to try anything, so just keep expectations in check with them for the month of June at least, (in game)

And well Mina and Hana can carry this relationship wise lol The carnations add a different kind of relationship for me. You know what they are there to do. I am not saying you can't potentially end up with one of them, but for the moment it adds characters that maybe you shouldn't fall for. They are essentially prostitutes or sex workers. How far will you go for their friendship, can they even see Edwin as a friend or maybe even something more. How much will they forgive. That kind of thing. It adds a nice dynamic, sees how far the player will go for the job, how much they can ignore or embrace. Eh I am rambling at this point.

I'm not the biggest fan of harems because they don't always fit, they aren't realistic.. but some games I don't mind them, as shown by my signature lol

(referring to the lesbian push) That is fair and answers my question from earlier. I didn't even think that it was there to just say it is only between veronica and mina. I was just thinking it had some far reaching consequences so I was iffy to try it lol. Well and I have a slight parasocial relationship with Mina that causes me to feel that pang of jealously when it comes to Veronica lol Maybe cause she is a bit too masculine in and out of the bedroom. Probably something to unpack there emotionally for me but whatever

I really respect that the game deliberately builds toward an uncomfortable conflict between characters. In a genre where player satisfaction is typically prized above all else, it's cool that Pale Carnations just does its own thing instead.

Disclaimer: I am one of the (I imagine few?) people doing the Scott Pilgrim-esque route of going for both Mina and Hana the wrong way, because I kind of just want to see how it blows up in Edwin's face first before doing the more proper fabled threesome route.

Not all harem games are that dumpies, but I understand your opinion especially because of the obsessive harem fans, the same goes for NTR fans...
but some harem games are made pretty well, the problem with harem genres is that most developers don't know how to do it and suddenly make the same boring plot with 5-10 girls and meaningless fucking!

Harem games also need clear plans and plots with a little difficulty, tension and competition between girls because of jealousy, and then slowly they come to terms with it and not just like that "show a bigdick with one click and all the girls are yours"

I'm not the biggest fan of Harem games, but I liked a few in which the Harem is on the smaller side. Like you said, it's really hard to make them even "semi-realistic", maybe in a fantasy or medieval game. That's why I prefer throuple relationships to pure Harems; while not the norm, at least they can be found in the real world, and it's easier to make them appear natural.

As for obsessive Harem fans, and I'm talking as someone who dislikes NTR, nothing makes me laugh more than when they complain about LIs already in the Harem interacting among themselves. They perceive sex between girls (with or without the MC present) as cheating and constantly complain about the MC being NTR'd. :KEK:
