Happy Chapter 4 Update 6 everyone! I've played through a solid chunk of the game now (though it's sufficiently varied that I don't I've seen everything), so it's time to figure out how I feel about it. I think on a narrative level, it's extremely good. There are a lot of moving parts here, but they fit together well and more importantly they come together to sell a pivotal moment of the story in unmistakable style. And as I all to often fail to mention, the art is fantastic, always highlighting the feelings of the various characters and finding clever ways to frame the action.

However, as good as the story and character work is, I do feel like the gameplay lets it down a bit because for all the choices available to us, the update is unavoidably about the cruel hedonism that is the Carnation Club. That's not to say there are no moments of levity or sincere tenderness; there are, and some of them are quite good. But those moments are short, isolated, and all too often restricted to very specific paths. Most importantly, though, almost none of those moments do anything to second guess Kathleen's attitude in her moment of triumph, and that definitely stings.

The end result is a good update that I didn't enjoy playing. Of course, given my laughably vanilla tastes I think it's fair to say I was never going to find this update fun. But even in comparison to previous Exhibitions, it didn't feel like my actions made much difference this time, at least not within the Exhibition. I don't know if that's a result of splitting the Exhibition into two parts or me wanting to get the "belly of the whale" portion over as soon as possible - or maybe I've been misreading where the story was going the whole time. We'll have to see what happens next. For now, I'd say I liked the update, but not as much as I was hoping.

Depends on what you mean by "get". Up until now, you can be on the GF route and still mess around with anyone and everyone, Mina included. But if you are referring to a future H+M threesome/throuple, that requires choosing fuckbuddies instead of BF/GF. Plus encouraging Mina's bi tendencies.

The scene you are (probably) thinking of happens after the concert, if you are not on GF route and have concentrated on Mina (and Hana) during the concert. Check walkthrough for details.

Mina's route starts as fuckbuddies and stays this way if Edwin doesn't choose actions to make it something closer and more exclusive.

Your mistake was to opt for Hana as girlfriend and expect a girl who has just broke up with her cheating boyfriend to be somehow okay as a willing accessory for another guy to cheat on his girlfriend.

I just watched the scene where Hana does a titjob for Edwin and lets him cum in her mouth and I have two things to say: First of all, perfect cumshot. When I say I want a scene ending with a cumshot in the mouth, this is how I want it done. The hand on the chin holding it in place, being able to actually see the cum shoot into the mouth instead of being just an oral creampie with the swallowing sounds. Awesome execution.

Second thing: how hard is it to animate something like that, with the cum fluids and stuff? I only ask because I want to understand why it´s so rare in HS games, at least those I´ve played. What I also find strange is that so far we've seen only Edwin, Kathleen and Jacob being influenced by this drug (that we know of), neither Chuck nor August seem to be affected by it (or Warren for that matter and out of all patreons only Jim seems interested in the old hag). Chuck spends time with Sophia the most out of all people and yet he can easily resist her charms (same goes for Abel, if anything it's Sophia who is under his influence). And judging by what Sophia said this drug works even on old men.

Which suggests it might not work on same sex but then again Sophia might have omitted some facts here (if it would work on everyone I would expect she would say "it works on everyone - males and females, young and old").

The impression I got was the *perfume* only works on men, but the injected drug works on both sexes. We've already seen Kathleen use the drug on the Carnations during their punishments, and the MC can use it on Kathleen during her sadism training.

I wouldn't say that 3 self-confidence points is a small impact when up until that point you can only get 6-7 points (depending on which path you choose with Mina and whether you refuse the threesome) and I personally really liked the scene itself, even though it's not an H-scene.

6-7? Try 2! There's slim pickins when you aren't on Felicia's path.

I suppose on the plus side that means the measly +1 Self-Confidence you get on the generic Felicia conversation is a 50% jump in my total. Sorry, Felicia!

I'm trying to use the URM mod but with this game P.C. I get a exception every time I try to search for variables.

I have used URM in other games and it works ok. Is there something I need to do that will get it working?

I had the same problem in the previous update (and still in this one) and the only fix i found back then was to use a old version of URM (when the interface was still lightblue) it was working perfectly. But unfortunately, i upgraded my computer recently and lost the file. And i can't manage to find a old enough version anywhere to download now.

So if anyone have a fix or a old file version, i'm interested too.

I discussed my experiences with URM at the end of my review, but to summarize: I can get URM working properly by using the modifications to the "00action_data.rpy" file discussed here, but that winds up breaking some features in Pale Carnations, such as the Settings screen or manual game saving. I haven't found a way to get everything working properly yet.

But honestly, turning down Sophia and Allison wasn't hard. Sophia never offered (we have a terrible rapport since my MC doesn't trust her and she's some flavor of insane), and the Allison scene couldn't be skeevier if Jim interrupted it to do more coke off Allison's ass halfway through. That's not what I'm looking for in a sex scene.

And I thought my write up of the update was a lot of text , interesting to hear your thoughts about it in general, I also share the feeling of enjoying non exhibition content more, but I was looking forward to the free roam in this update, as it had been a while since the last one, and I wouldn't mind it if devs decided to do them in other places of the game aside from exhibitions, as long as it makes sense of course. Honestly I expect not to enjoy the next update as much, considering it'll just be the main event, and I don't particularly love those scenes, but with everything going on with Felicia, I think it'll still be very interesting, I'm also curious to see what options they give us when it comes to ending the night with someone.

Nah, my main route is holding out for Veronica.

The more the game advances the more I feel like my "cannon" route will also take the Veronica path, it takes a while to penetrate into Ronnie's heart, but she's adorable once you do. I do wonder how the different endings will change based on who the MC ends up with tho I guess the ending is still a couple years away so I shouldn't worry too much about it.

Well, you never developed a rapport with her, that starts to change quite a bit of what is happening now. Sophia is the most important non-Main LI character going forward. By the way, our lovely bundle of contradictions is NOT insane. Part is her eccentrism, which I expected to show, hats up for TD1900 who wrote it nicely, if fitting it to the storyline with a dark bend by personality imprints and special training from the secret service sphere andI the mentioned imprints/training done so Sophia can function to full extend in Kath and Chucks diabolical den.
Personally I know a couple eccentrics, so some behaviour of Sophia is no biggie for me and we can see in game that Sophia is a cute, nice woman in an extremly problematic position, who should still not be underestimated. I theorise both Abel and Sophia have imprints done to stave off the influence of Kath, Chuck and the others. I think TD has some surprises more for us in his bag. I estimate Abel and Sophia underestimated what these imprints and training would do to them longterm. They might win this war with Chuck, Kath and the Club, but at what personal cost?More tomorrow, because it is really late where I live.
