I get the whole debate about piracy vs. patronage. I had someone proclaim to me this wasn't a piracy site but an advertising site for the developers. Heh. Whatever helps people sleep.
Pirated copies of stuff have happened throughout time. No way to stop it, but that doesn't mean you have to love it.
On the other hand, I can fully attest that I was just patronizing one game developer (Cypress) and was simply browsing for other similar games when I came upon this site, Now I patronize 19 games. I don't think this situation is unique, either.
People latch onto a creative idea and a number of them will be eager to support the creator because that shows their appreciation and encouragement for completion of the current game and production of future ones.
It's not a perfect system. Some people just sit here and only get free stuff. And there is way too much bitching about when a new update is coming out (especially from people who are not supporters, as if they will somehow magically transform into one upon the next update).
But, it's a system that can work in your favor if you figure out, as others have suggested, how to build your tiers with your patrons.
Plenty of high income producers still have their stuff released here "too soon". They manage to keep their patrons in spite of and, in some cases, because of sites like this.
Good luck in any case!
