I really like the game, but I really am a stranger to the pokemon series. My only experience is spectating my brother play it on an emulator back in 2009. So far I got to the second town with starter, lopunny, a bird and linoone. I dont wanna use the crutch, but I do want to know which mons would be good to use, also which skills are good. Anyone got any ideas?
I'm also new to the scene other than trying it once on a gameboy around 2 decades ago in elementary school.

I found some useful information which also carries over to this game:

The nature indicates a change in it's stat growth. The one you start with sparsely use physical attacks, it is instead focused on special attacks. Anything that reduces the growth of the attack value (not special attack value) is then very good for that pokemon as indicated.

IVs are just stat addons which the pokemon slowly gets as it levels (I think) ranging between 0-30 in their value.

What took me a little bit of time to understand correctly was the damage types. Not elements. Just what constitutes an attack or special attack (kind of like magic attack). It's indicated in the skill menu.

Tip:
I decided to start the game anew after getting to the third city. There's something called a Macho Brace. I looked it up as the description of it was sort of vague. The thing seems to double your stats upon level up and the speed malus is only during battle. Once you take the brace of it goes back to normal, but you'd permanently have doubled the effects of your level ups in the meantime. So put the waifus into the box and use some "throwaway" pokemons as mains in the meantime.

Poison is a good status effect to get the pokemons low on health, as to make them easier to capture. Sometimes your pokemons will hit too hard to get into a good red range for capture. Poison helps.

How strong the skills are is shown by their power times how many times it hits. Status effects are a little different and accuracy is important for them. There can only be 1 status effect on a pokemon at a time. The previous one will be overwritten by new status effects, should you decide to cast/use another one on the enemy.

Thanks for the tips, really. I kinda get the gist of it, refreshed me on what I've heard from listening to friends blabbing on and on about pokemon mechanics. I'll do the macho brace trick, also rerolling my starter. It's Hardy of all the natures lmao

If I joined the discord, it'd be 95% about making them have huge/giant tits. Maybe not to the degree that the "erectlip" studio produces. It'd still do my darnest to try to get big(ger) boobas in the game.

Like if the main scientist was having trouble splicing human DNA with Pokemon DNA in one of the pokemons. The DNA is spliced but there's no phenotypical differences between its current state and that of its original state. He tries and tries to splice more human DNA and it still doesn't change until an ultra "womanly" (big boobas and a booty to match) pokewoman is created. Doesn't have to be a dumb bimbo... maybe it's highly intelligent.

Yeah... *sigh* these are probably the ideas I'd try to push in the dozens.

Another one? How about a more "organic" human pokemon hybrid, which doesn't reproduce via eggs and can't breed with other pokemon. So in order to lure human males to mate with it, it evolved some big ol' tiddys.

What about a Ditto (I looked for mimic) that couldn't revert back to its original form. Being stuck in a female form? In order to survive as a human it evolved some huge honkers.

A human-like pokemon found a lost baby in nature and wanted to take care of it. It tried feeding it all sorts of things, then it learned babies needs breastmilk. The bonding with baby and the pokemon created a change in it's DNA as it evolved so now it has huge mommy milkers constantly lactating. Good for the baby for the first few years... but after 20 years. Yet it is its final form and now the pokemon is stuck with giant lactating tits. A phenomenon which fascinated the evil professor splicing human/pokemon DNA. During our journey we free it from him and the organization.

This was just what I thought up on the top of my head. I have 100's of these ideas.

Former if you are smart/good at pokemon, later otherwise, and somewhere in between if you put limits on yourself like nuzlock rules or the -10 levels challenge.
Been playing since leafgreen came out so I'd hope I'm at least somewhere in between lol. Thanks for the time frame :)

Aside from the immediate different reward from the quest.

The "crutch" ain't a crutch, but a time saver. You can either level up normally, with wild mons in, say, an hour, or use the "crutch" to get the same exp in 5-10 minutes.

This is, by the way, why I recommended several months ago to change that dialogue. I see it as a tongue in check comment from the developer, and I have better things to do than waste an hour levelling up when I can do it in 10 minutes, but it IS making people not use it.

Now, IF you level up above the level of the pokemon you are facing, it may be seen as a crutch, but the use of the trainer per se? Not so much, not in my opinion. Not that it will matter in the future because in the next patch there will be a level cap, so the most you can overlevel is 5 levels above the next boss (a fair number for players that are new to pokemon). At the end of the day, though, if you are new to the series, level up. It will help you deal with your lack of experience while learning how to play.

That said, the starter alone trivializes the first gym. Grand jette coupled with the leftovers equipment should make the starter pretty much immortal, even more if you couple it with draining kiss, and she is a steel type, who are immune to the poison type attacks, so a poison specialist won't hurt her too much. And waifu lopunny is a powerful fighting pokemon that will learn a very powerful, unique move, Spin Kick, although poison types resist fighting moves, so she isn't the best for that gym, but she can still hurt the gym leader pokemon a lot using normal type moves, and Return is REALLY powerful (102 power because Lopunny should be at max friendship).

In the grass in the second town, you should be able to find totodile, a starter water pokemon. Starter pokemon are on the more powerful side in raw stats and moves, not to the level of the waifumons of this game, but still powerful pokemon that can deal with most fights. And personally, I've always liked Mareep. Ampharos, it's last evolution, is an electric pokemon with a poweful special attack and more tanky than most others electric types, so it can take hits and dish them in return.

If you want something else that resist poison and can't be poisoned for that fight, the Nidorans are poison types themselves, so they can help you. I don't remember if you can get a moon stone that soon in the game, so you may not be able to evolve them to their last form at that point.

What's this crutch/timesaver that everyone is talking about? I'm pretty much stuck at the first gym
There is a breeder that you can fight as many times as you want that has three audinos with metronome. You can level up your team in very little time by using it, but the answer that means no to fight him says something like "I don't need no crutch" or something like that. Use it carefully, because it is easy to over level with him. I don't remember if he appears also in Eros city, but he should be available in the first city. There are several breeders "crutch" in the game, with audinos with enough level to easily train if you need them.
