Sadly, ya done goofed. Without the bell, "she" will always be a "he". But you can still recruit him by yeah, having his kingdom lose a war and you saving him.

Usually in your first playthrough, the recommended action is to either side with Pumpkin King so that you can recruit Scarecrow Princess after making Harvest Princess leave. Or Kill Pumpkin King and never return the bell to Harvest Princess. Or third option, side with Pumpkin King, recruit Scarecrow Princess, and then kill Pumpkin King to get bell.

I swear returning the bell let you choose because Harvest Princess either gives you the option during scenes or hands it back to you later... it's been a while so maybe I'm misremembering, but I'm pretty sure I sided with harvest princess and give her back the bell.

You're either misremembering or they changed it. But as far as I remember, it's always been give the bell to him/her and you'll not be able to use it. But if you get it from Pumpkin King, you can use it on him/her without his/her knowledge.

I've been sitting on most of this for a while. I haven't really felt like working on this lately, so I still haven't done the cheat option to change the roaming NPCs.

• Improved the GC patch a bit more.
• For the seemingly zero people who use a controller on windows, I've fixed controller support for mkxp-z. I had to swap the behavior of the A and X buttons, though, so a few menus will be wrong.
• Reconfigured the message box hider's keybind a bit. It now accepts an array, and defaults to ~ or delete, since using ~ on Joiplay is a pain. I should probably have picked a key that the game uses, but I'm feeling too lazy to pick one right now.
• Changed the Cat's Eye potion to affect the Mermaid Reign and the Deep Merk.
• Changed the Death Potion to be able to kill undead princesses while in their human forms.
• Fixed the crash in Joiplay that AtomicSamurai911 just reported.
• If turning on save compression, uncompressed saves are now compressed synchronously. Doing it in a different thread took forever to complete on slower systems, and this was the best way to fix it. Doing it async isn't safe in Joiplay, anyway.
• mkxp-z executable update. Just a few thread safety fixes.

Help with this? It happens every time I complete a route.

That's one of my scripts. Joiplay's apparently doing something that breaks it. Redownload my patches to fix it.

• Fixed saving after leaving the Slime Pool crashing the game upon reload
• Fixed Father's Gift not awarding the promised Swirlies if the Princess wearing it is still on her throne
• Fixed the Amy NPC not selling Shadow Maid Dress
