I'll say the same here that I have said to many other devs.
You make the game YOU want to make. Your first game isn't going to get massive amounts of support either way, people are already invested in other devs but most are open to supporting new talent.
Your first game is where you set the tone. You show people you can make consistent updates with the same quality you set. It doesn't need to be monthly, hell, most top devs will tell you never to release monthly. Give yourself time to make a good chunk of content you are happy with.
It's fine to take small ideas from you players but major stuff like characters and story content should all be you. If you start making content patrons/fans put forward you are no longer making your game and that's when devs tend to abandon stuff. They go way off what they started out making and no longer enjoy it.
The main thing is you enjoy what you are doing. This isn't the best thing to do if all you want is money because very few devs now ever make it past the 1k a month mark. It can be done but don't count on it especially on a first game.
Mainly we are here to see what you can do. It doesn't matter how many ideas, demands or requests you get i'm not looking to see you make forum dweller 24's game. By all means if you see something you like then that great but only if it's something you think works and it's something you can pull off while staying in line with the rest of the game.
