I think people should go with what feels right for them. The point of fantasy role-play to me is to play out your fantasy. Whatever that may be.

My moral system in life is fairly fixed (not completely, that's usually bad.) My moral system in games goes to different places in different games.

While I agree that we all will have a different moral compass in games of any kind ("Your honor, I do solemnly swear that I never ran around the streets killing hundreds of aliens in my life, nor did I ever drop a nuclear bomb on a competing civilization's home planet, never have, never will, so help me Ctulhu"), for each and every one there are still some options we rather not explore, especially when taking a liking to an NPC or similar. It really depends on how you become immersed into a game and its world and even may differ from game to game. At least that's the case for me.
