The 1 & 2 remakes are basically dungeon crawlers, I haven't played 3 and the 4's, but Kichikuou is very similar to Sengoku Rance in a territory conquest style, 5D is a weird gambling game thing, 6 & 8 are RPGs with 6 being a traditional dungeon crawler and 8 being closer to Evenicle, but still a dungeon crawler at its core, 9 is a SRPG and 10 is a "Great War" rpg. If you're looking for something similar to Sengoku, Kichi is your best bet. It's very good, even if it's very old at this point. Rance is a huge dick in it though.
Tyvm for the answer.

About Great War Rpg, you mean strategy turn based? I don't mind stuff different for Sengoku, just some pure dungeon crawlers are boring. I don't hate it, I even like dungeons, but gets a bit repetitive after an while. I loved the Sengoku and Daibanchou dungeons for example because they weren't based on all gameplay, was just another element to the game.

As long it isn't extremely repetitive it should be fine. I just asked because I recall playing Rance Quest Magnum and after an while I got extremely bored, it's way too repetitive unfortunely. I don't recall atm if the story was subpar comparing to Sengoku, I just remember I got tired quickly, so I may didn't give it enough time to develop.

If I grab time I may still try them out anyway, since Alicesoft's wiki got me a lot of interest. Thank you again.

That's Rance for you, good story and characters, but torturous gameplay. I think the only time i wasn't somehow annoyed by the main series was Rance IV. But, there's one important but - they're really short. 1, 2, 3, 4, 4.1, 4.2, 5, all of them take like no time to finish, i did it in just a week, even if the gameplay wasn't good. Rance Quest takes eternity however, and Rance VI does too, so beware of them.

Of course there's always Kichikuou, which is similar to Sengoku, so there's no need to descend into the main games right now.

I think it kinda depends on your choices in the game. The player has a lot of leeway when it comes to his actions so he can potentially be a really bad guy. But on the other hand he can also be relatively tame compared to other incarnations if you decide to be more benevolent in your playthrough.

Yeah, 6 and 8 are very repetitive. 6 probably has the best story out of the games I've played, with Kichikuou as the runner up. Quest isn't bad, but the pacing is awful and it doesn't get really good until Crook's arc comes into swing in the "post" game. 9 and 10 aren't translated into english yet so I haven't played those two either, for the record. 9 should be coming out relatively soon and 10 should come out this decade, probably.

I've only played sengoku rance. Really loved it but am not willing to play the older games if the CG isn't as good. Any on this list that anyone would recommend?

I recommend play all of them except the old ones and just play the remakes for 1-3 instead of course 3 is not out yet but will likely come sometime next year in English. For a game after Sengoku, I recommend 5D then VI. Just because 5D is pretty short and has some nice humor and works as a prologue to VI which has a great story, great characters, nice gameplay, and solid H-scenes with the only downside being some grindy or repetitious moments to get the true ending. After that you can either play Quest or go back and play the remakes.

Hi guys, apologies if this was already asked, but is there a manual or some gameplay instructions for Sengoku Rance?

I'd recommend looking through the wiki if you're confused. This page and the tips page were pretty helpful to me when I first played.

Hmmm, in Sengoku Rance the "call reinforcements" seems to be bugged for me. I have open national power and room for commanders and its been more than 20 turns.

IIRC the arrival of your commander is such a low priority start-of-turn event there's a good chance it won't trigger, but you can still pick them up manually from your capital (think it costs an AP that way though).

So yeah i ended up beating the game around turn 70 when i called for Zeth reinforcement within the first 15. They never came. The only thing i can think of is it might be a bug related to where Oda Nobunaga should be there to greet Rizna but he ended up being possessed before it happened. The option to manually select it never popped up. Oh well guess i'll do another route and try to catch it early

I doubt rance x will be done by the end of the year (given that it's 9 days from now), but excited to see 9 up soon. Its been in beta for a minute so maybe soon.

Rance games are out on GOG now, i love how a lot of devs are releasing games on GOG as well
Smart move on CDPR's side too, games like this draw a crowd and Steam censors them because in some of their moderators' minds anime = child pornography. I'm glad these games are getting more exposure.

Here's a Cheat Engine table I made for Sengoku Rance. To use it just rename the file from .xml to .CT (had to change it to upload it here) and open it with Cheat Engine, then connect Cheat Engine to the running game.

The table can be used to modify:
  • Money
  • Remaining actions in a turn
  • Requirements (e.g. to search for a dungeon without using any troops, same with diplomacy, ...)
  • For every commander:
    • a flag indicating whether they have already been used this turn (0 = not used, 1 = used)
    • current and maximum number of troops
    • attributes
    • current and maximum HP
    • current and maximum Level (also increases damage in single combat, e.g. in dungeons)
To make life easier, values that are commonly set to the same value can be set using their header. E.g. to set all of Rance's attributes to 50 000 you can just double click the value column entry of the "Attributes" drop-down (which should be blank) and set the value there. Same for HP, Level and Troops.

Some values get changed when a turn ends, e.g. all attributes reset to their normal values, and some values you may just not want to change in general, e.g. the remaining actions. To do this just click the checkbox for the value you want to freeze. The Atrributes, HP, Level and Troops drop-downs freeze all their children if the header is frozen.

If you get new commanders and want to modify them, just copy and paste the entry of the last commander in the list, then double click address of the copy and change the counter in the last entry field. For example, if the last entry was "+5*8" then change it to "+6*8". Keep in mind that the counter is hexadecimal, so after 9 comes A. You can also set the correct name of the commander at this point.

I made this for the patched version, so I'm unsure if it works for the original version. I also know that at least the commanders section doesn't work in some of the additional modes you unlock after finishing the game once.
