And so the meme came to life: Malice is a roommate.

Just abandon patreon, their behaviour is a textbook example of abusive relationship. If this was a normal employer-employee contract you could sue them, but it is not because patreon is your master and your are patreon's slave. If you choose to stay, get use to regular beating.

Even though I agree with your argument, it's easier said than done. Especially when a lot of money is involved. Why not give us a certain “incesty-wincesty” patch on a third-party website?

Technically speaking you won't even be able to ever meet Malice. You would need access to Rape, Preg, Femdom, Incest. All of which are locked.

This is why people return to abusive relationships: leaving is easier said than do. Better to be abused and have some comfort, than being alone out the streets. You compromise, you make peace but the abuse won't stop because you are afraid to leave. This has nothing to do with politics nor economics, this is using raw power to satisfy patreon's feeling of superiority over you. You will use more and more of your energy to deal with the everyday bullshit until you are completely submitted, or you break and leave wondering why you did not do that years ago. You know it takes a lot of time and energy to deal with patreon support, not to mention remove most of the content of ravager to please patreon. I will tell you, it won't end there, because you will bend your knees because you are weak.

The bright side is that when you have cut the ties all that restricted you, your potential is free to use again. You are not a zero, you have old code, patreon users who recognize the injustice and all pirating anons here. Sure, you will take a hit, it will be rough couple of first months until you are able to stand on your own feet again, and from here one the future is again your.

If you wonder why do I keep posting this, is because I really like this game and want it to succeed.

As much as I value your opinion, you clearly have never led or seen a private company from the inside. Being an employee is different from being an employer. An employee can just cut ties whenever they want, but you can't do that if you're an employer. You're dependent on those people, aka. Patreon, not only for yourself and your company's survival but also for the rest of your staff, for their families etc. And yes, your'r right that binding yourself to someone who doesn't appreciate what you do is quite masochistic. I just had a look at their Patreon, it's roughly €2.000/month. That's a lot of cash, Claus! Diversifying their source of income and switching to SubscribeStar was a step in the right direction. Next it to make sure to keep this boat afloat and keep developing. Meanwhile, work on decoupling from Patreon and collectively leaving this dumpster fire behind.

I agree with everyone saying that they should get off patreon. There simply is no way they can keep working on this game as it is and use that platform any more.

This said, I don't really agree with the hate toward the platform ut self. I mean, I am yet to see any evidence of the patreon people being abusive in any way. I mean, it's not like the dev came here and said he got insulting emails or something. The platform just happen to have a very clear idea of what sort of content they want and what sort of content they don't want their service to be used for. And they enforce that.

And while it sucks that their idea happens to be different from what the devs want to make that does not make them evil or abusive. It just sucks.

Patreon is bad because of *reasons*
Why does it still exist?
Because people are afraid/dont know how/dont want to learn how to use direct remittance.

Because not so long ago several guys paid to me for my skills using mentioned above way.
And guess what, the transfer fee was around 1% from a whole sum (around 2$ from each transfer), I get money on the same day.
Simple, ease and, which is most important, no company have take away 30% from whole sum just because it can.

My take on the patreon is that yes Patreon is also at fault and is complicit in these actions. When a person threatens another person to kill another person that doesnt excuse the person who killed the other person does it make it more understandable yes but it was still an evil action. Paypal may be forcing patreon but patreon is actively enforcing these orders which can ruin a persons entire income and possibly life so yes I view that as shitty. They also used to allow this type of content before they arbitrarily changed the rules and screwed over a bunch of people. Patreon should be protecting the people who make their business possible and finding better alternatives to paypal to better protect the people who make Patreon successful. Not to mention rules being enforced Unfairly and them taking a decent chunk of money but so does other sites still doesn't excuse it.

Now my take on Ravager patreon situation oh I meant "rampager". First Personally I would completely leave Patreon But because the game is so late in development and workers are depending on this money I don't think its good to completly discard all that money its just not good for the game or the dev and the people working with them. So I support Staying on patreon but I encourge the Dev not to rely on Patreon anymore so maybe don't recommended Patreon and promote Subscribe star or any other alternatives if your Patreon accounts makes enough money you will become beholden to Patreon which wouldn't be good they would probably make you change your project to a kids show or game and it'll be called little misfits or some shit :ROFLMAO:. If the game was early In Development I would say leave but now in late development its not possible. I'm fine with staying on patreon as long as it doesn't effect the vison of the game and doesn't cause censorship of the game on other sites other than patreon.

Your assessment is right but not perception. If you are a specialist that is difficult to replace, then the employee cannot simply fire you when he feels like it, but in the case of low-skill jobs he can. From patreons perspective, all subscribers are low-skilled workers who can be fired when needed. Patreon doesn't give a shit of team ravager, no matter does it profit 2000€ or 20000€ monthly or not, they literally have thousands this level teams but the media/twitter/whatever demands only one sacrifice at the time.

Regarding saying fuck you! to your employee and burning the bridge behind you, two very successful people have done that. Jordan Peterson deleted his patreon account which profited more than 30000$ monthly, you can find that video in youtube, and another youtuber named Tim Pool has abandoned his well paying jobs multiple of times and now it seems he is about to found his own independent media company.
So, if you want safety, you will get safety, but there is no liberty nor future in it. Life is an adventure, enjoy it.

I've never had a discussion about a tyrannical online crowdfunding website, who holds the hard-earned cash of a small indie dev team hostage, turn into a philosophical dispute about liberty…. Add to that on a website dedicated to pirating porn games… the internet truly never ceases to amaze me.

Peterson's estimated net worth is $7., Pool's $2.Million. $30.000 that's jump-change for both of them! Claus, you're comparing an indie dev team, dependent on crowdfunding to fund their project, to MILLIONAIRES. I'm not advocating against leaving Patreon, I'm advocating to be smart and pragmatic about it. And it's certainly not the most brilliant move, cutting ties with a company, while said company holds hostage a large sum of people's investment. Acting on emotion and using liberty as a justification for it never lead anywhere. They would just harm themselves and sabotage their cause.

Well, I'm done. It was fun while it lasted. Let's get back to why we're all here… playing a big ol' dragon fucking, flying and burning the world. Preferably in that order. lol.

Neither did I but politics of real life have their consequences. You can ignore them, but that does not make them any less unreal. I only want to play good games without interruptions.

State Of The Realm: October

October is done, and the dust is clearing to reveal us - as ever - beavering busily away on what's to come.

It has been a good month, on balance. We've had our share of plagues and other challenges, but we're still alive and kicking. The last pained struggles of moving platforms are fading away, and we've come out strong: a great and wonderful majority of you have joined us here on SubStar, our lifeblood for the times to come. We've just received our first taste of Steam's proceeds, which will allow us to expand as we've always hoped.

And expand we will. The next month will see us able to bring our animator Amon Ra into the fold as the newest full-time member of the team. We've also been able to secure more of writer Mattrex and editor Julia's talents, and November will see a rapid acceleration of our voice acting work (which has long had to play second fiddle to other concerns).

You'll be able to see the first benefits of that when our next update launches, on the weekend of the 6th November. It'll feature a lot of content for our last character to finish their Act IV arc, Maelys, as well as assorted delights and revelations for Valzira, Malagar, and more. Look forward to it - I certainly do.
