I would laugh my ass off if his
apparent caution in approaching the cavern ends up somehow turning out to be something that lets them figure out how to deal with the monster. Ofc, if dream girl
manages to kill the cave monster, it might not matter what does or does not happen with Virgil. His whole thing, to me, just screams politics without real solutions. Like, "We are aware of the concerns regarding some 'cave creature' that is rumored to be responsible for disappearances of some of our kind. We are investigating what might be done and planning strategies that we cannot disclose at this time." (
Translation: "Yeah, the 'cave creature' scares the hell out of us too. We have no plans to confront it at any time in the future.")
The thing I'm really wondering, though, is
how (possibly just "if" at this point) the shield and sword are going to come into play. It's highly possible those just end up being loose ends that never get fleshed out any further.
There are other ways to conclude things that are probably better too. But the thought of
those items intrigues me.
