I believe MC and Kat have the same father but different mothers. MC being Anna's son (confirmed in this update) and Kat being Rose's daughter. Their father was Rose's brother, so Rose is truly MC's aunt.
When you start a new game this quote is shown:
Just like MC and her sister Kat are repeating their parent's story.
I think in the future there'll be some similarities between Nat and Anna as well.
