Slowly working away on stuff (and things (but mostly stuff)) and was doing some art fixes yesterday to an old scene (and breaking that scene), but unrelated (and also somewhat related) I popped back into another scene that a few people have asked to be animated. While this is by no means final (in fact this is the first pass to see if it even looks passible (it looks... so-so)) and doable (not sure yet), and while it is no where near as good as the ones Ferdafs makes, here is a rough pass at some animation:
This is screen captured out of the game, so it is close to what it will look like in Renpy. You'll notice that the expressions are missing, and that is because I haven't figured out how to do them just yet. I could in theory duplicate the animation for each expression (the way the video animation already in game current work), but I want to see if I can be smarter about it (so more testing needed). It also has some gaps in parts (that I'll most likely fix by hand), overall, it looks alright.
For anyone wondering, I did this frame-by-frame in my primary art tool (Clip Studio Paint Pro), cutting the characters into parts, and animating each part, on each frame. This is 15 frames, but played back on 2s over 1~ second, so ~30ish frames per second. It is a little jank, but, eh, what do you want for free from someone who isn't an artist (or animator)?
Will this go into the game? I honestly don't know yet. I have a big challenge still to solve getting expressions in as well, and it needs more clean up and time. Maybe? I used up a lot of today on this and need a break, will revisit it later next week and see how I feel about it.
Anyhow, thanks for staying awesome while we wait for the next update.
