Honestly, I have no idea. I don’t think this specific change is currently on the devs’ roadmap. Some people in this thread have also said that the game was always designed with an incest-free approach and that it works perfectly fine without this patch. That said, I use the patch myself because I’ve always found that the story and dialogue work better with the patch integrated into the game. But of course, everyone’s free to do as they please.

I’m afraid that, for lack of a better option, you’ll have to make do with what’s currently available and choose between the two existing options : playing with or without the patch.

Do patches still affect the newer releases then? If so, I may actually switch over, but then I assume newer content will have less jarring dialogue so I may just not. I dunno.

I don't remember the exact wording but changing it from something about roommates to her being "almost like a sister" would make that conversation flow better I think, without breaking any Patreon rules.

To me, the most jarring moment remains that scene where the two of them watch an anime together. There aren’t many dialogues referencing this kind of thing for now anyway. Besides, this particular scene doesn’t make sense without the incest patch.

Yeah, that scene in the anime is the only thing that's annoying without the patch. If it weren't for that, I wouldn't even remember that there was a patch. Everything else is fine. Somehow they missed that moment, it could have been handled differently.

From what I remember, there are very few moments where the dialogues mention that weird "roommate" thing (to avoid talking about incest) as something strange; I think briefly at the beginning with Tiffany/Jessica, that scene I mentioned in front of that anime, and maybe the photoshoot with Jessica, though I’m less sure about that one.

Foster siblings who grew up together in the same household can legally get married in the vast majority of the US. And that's essentially what Jessica and the MC are in game without the patch. Unless it's mentioned somewhere that Tiffany legally adopted him, but I don't recall that.

Adoption on the other hand creates a legally binding familial relationship and that can and is considered incest in many places.

I'm not sure if it's ever clearly stated whether the MC was legally adopted by Tiffany or not. In my country, France, I know that adoption and family relationships formed through a parent's marriage prohibit unions between members of the two joined families (such as between stepparents and stepchildren). Only a few exceptions, I believe, have ever been granted, typically through a presidential authorization (only in the event of the death of the parent who established the alliance) or a court decision.

At game-start, it says "You were adopted by Tiffany". If it weren't an actual adoption I think it would simply say "You were taken in" or "you were raised".

I honestly forgot. I can't remember everything, sorry. ^^ I also play a lot of other games besides Ripples. But thanks for the info, now we know it's definitely the case.

But is it really legally adopted, or more like just taken in at home ? Sometimes the same word might be used even if it doesn’t mean exactly the same thing. Anyway, it’s just a detail here. I don't think the game brings it up again later. Also, I play with multimod, so I can’t be sure about that detail.

Like i said in my last post i rerun the game, always a bliss and i may say on the lewd scenes sometimes its like Jestur knows precisely what you would expect and seeing that given to you in a scene is a superb feeling.

It is what it is, quality takes time, I knew that then I started working on a VN myself.

If its a high quality VN, then I just kinda expect a year (or close to it) turnaround

Yeah, because its so necessary to make 4k images in VNs, especially when real quality ends somewhere near 720p because of engine limitations, and if you dont put really great amount of effort, difference between 720 and 4k will be only in "garbage" upscale pixels. I could make 96*96 logo into 8k png image, but should I?

Rendering at 4k then downsampling to 1080p is the standard, for Daz anyway, not sure about HS. Rendering at 4k reduces Aliasing (Jagged edges), brings through details such as skin pores and hair strands and these details are retained when downsampling. Due to it being rendered at a higher resolution, it allows shadows to have a higher fidelity and reduces the amount of work the denoiser has to do.

Which is mute, because as my post said, I spent all day posing the shots, not rendering. It rendered overnight while I slept, the physical act of setting up the environments, sorting the materials, lighting, camera settings are what took the majority of the time, and thats without even going into branching, or animations or anything of that matter. The thing that caused me to stop wasn't render times, it was I didn't have time to commit to spending days posing, and I just heavily dislike Daz's workflow/navigation.

To bring it back on topic to Ripples, the VN is written better than anything I could've done, with a million more Renders than i'd ever have to do with a million more animations. I don't know Jestur's workflow, he could render machines pumping out renders, but for me anyway, the rendering wasn't the bottleneck.

All renders, generally at 4k with my machine (again RTX 4080 Super/7800x3d/32gb DDR5) it pumps out a normal render at about 10-15 minutes a piece, that's fine. When you add stuff like reflections (e.g. the external shot of the car, that took like an hour or two maybe), the two mirror shots were like 30-35 minutes each.

Like I said, the rendering wasn't the issue, that was the easy part, but I could very easily see it stacking up with animations and stuff
