Funny thing, in France "esquimau" (pronounced "eskimo") is how they call that kind of ice lolly too.Yes, that ice cream exactly was available in Soviet Russia in 80s. It was called эскимо (eskimo), slightly more expensive ice cream than our usual пломбир в вафельных стаканчиках (cream ice cream in waffle glasses). Moreover, in modern Russia there's the same ice cream with the same name for people who still remember that eskimo.
