I've been playing since the 1.10 launch. I understand that Vel has a vision for this game, but the 1.16 remodel wasn't a good idea. turning it from a 2d platformer with turn based combat, then to a card game/ turn based combat, to then removing except turn based combat and forcing a linear story was not only sad but also jarring. IMO, all they needed to do was iron out the skill trees in the pre-card version, add random encounters, and add more scenes for in and out of combat. I don't follow the creator or any of their drama, but it's a shame that one of the best one handed successors to Karryn's Prison was nerffed for a story that no one that interested in exploring...at least not for the "plot." I look forward to Vels other work, but this wasn't their best work.
