its not dead actually.... but with current progress and changes... this game have a high chance to fail
I mean, I've been playing lately 2 games that have recently had massive changes on them (funnily both were porn ones)...
Saria is a game that, while the dev seems to have changed direction, and I can get why others feel annoyed by it, it still holds it's weight pretty well, the idea of this direction is something I respect from the dev, and doesn't annoy me after playing it, probably a lot of the content made before will have to be re put into the game, and that will take some more time (probably up to 3 - 4 more months, to write everything and come up with slight bits of more content) at the end of the day it'll depend on how Velminth ends up managing it...

I personally like it since the game art is very good, and possesed a very large amount of fetishes that it could go towards, and it won't be now a game that when you see it you consider it "oh a similar game to Karryn's Prison"...

I'm coming in pretty blind, and decided to read the replies to get a feel for people's opinions and anything I should note before downloading this.
Sounds like the game went from side-scrolling RPG, to side-scrolling RPG with the card based combat, and now it's shifted to be a VN with card based combat in 0.16.
Based on all the information I can gather from people talking, and the images I'm seeing, the dev is taking HEAVY inspiration from Library of Ruina with these changes. LoR is an amazing game, so if the dev can pull their own spin on it properly, then it'll surely be a great game- if sadly not the type of game initially promised. I'll wait a while before checking the game out to let the dev cook some more, but I'm hopeful for the game's future based on what I'm seeing and hearing.

"see you in 5 versions"
Lol you wish, all those low life lazy fuckers criticizing the dev, I remember people saying this is one of the devs that put the most effort and update the fastest, hope he gives up and stop developing this to see if the "free critism" make you happy.
Not even considering the mental health or motivation of the game, I translated a few doujins and people criticized me for the grammar, every minimal comment criticizing me make me feel awful, it's people like you how make people kill themselve, or just give up on their projects, man I really wish the dev just fucking stops to see how happy will that make you.
Gonna cry?

Wait the VN has card-based combat? Does it still have any rpg character progression systems? How does a VN handle mob encounters?

Yes, coupled with a stance system. The mobs are treated as if they are on a single health bar in battles. I didn't bother playing far enough to see if there are any genuine character progression system. I'll instead let someone else talk about that.

Does the game run like a crap still?. I remember trying to play 13.1 and having to use cheat engine to speed up the game because of how slow the game ran at some points, mainly with combat since it took forever.

It uses same system as last two versions, there are currently less cards in the pull but the current card system is abit tighter than previous rendition. There's currently no RPG character progression, this is only a prototype of what Saria Reclaimed will be from now on if Vel doesn't take another 4 months for yet another remake.
Mob encounters are treated as 1v1 battles, they will play random attack cards until Saria gets horny from prolonged battles (you're on an artificial timer each battle) in which case they start to slowly replace attack cards with lewd cards. Otherwise they function similar to previous incarnations with the whole different attack types and defense types.

Sounds to me like your computer is more like a toaster. It ran completely fine on my very ancient spare computer still running parts from 2008.

You know, all in all, I hope that this new system will lead to the possibility of some of the costumes that Vel made for Saria being implemented into scenes.

I mean, it most likely won't happen, but here's to hoping. Hate when games add different outfits that never show up for actual sex scenes.

I'm sorry, it's no fun anymore. I understand that you want to try things out, but that doesn't work anymore. And from what I read, I'm not the only one who feels that way. All I can say is get your basic game ready before you constantly try something new.

If you play 2. it's ok, but this is really bad

I was iffy when it switched to the card system, and I'm very concerned with this update.
I mean, we've only seen this pattern a billion times. "I've remade huge chunks of the game so it should be smooth sailing from here". Few months later, "i've remade huge chunks of the game so it should be smooth sailing from here", repeat till player and developer interest in the game is completely dead. I don't blame them though, I understand the desire to perfect. It's just sad that realistically, it's a sign that it won't work out for almost every single one that goes through this process.
