this turned out to be a very interesting social experiment, definitely not something you would expect to see on a porn site of all places, lmao but it's pretty entertaining

This sums up the past... roughly half a day perfectly. With the combination of receipts about a bad dev and the perspective from someone that's an actual class act on how to handle criticism.

Hey I'm also not a fan of the direction the game took. I posted my critique earlier in the thread. Perhaps I made unfavorable assumptions about your own response to the dev based on the tone of your comment, and if I was incorrect, I apologize. Personally, I tend to be a little defensive when I see a wave of hate for people online because I know how unreasonable people often are. If that's something you've been on the receiving end of, then I hope it's a perspective you can at least appreciate, even if you don't agree with. Not every creator can be thick-skinned, even if ideally they should. But I acknowledge that it was unfair of me to paint everyone with the same brush.
End of the day the audience Vel has is the one he cultivated. Him acting this way is nothing new, he just happened to be in good graces of like-minded people who as quickly turned on him (on F95) as they had on others when he would join in. F95 does tend to be more aggressive towards creators here, Town of Magic devs are a good example of someone being chased off due to random posters being asshats, but that's not the case for Vel's own Discord and other social media on whom he taken out his frustrations.

Yeeeeeppppp, I write Harem fanfic on single pairings, with sometimes other Harem, and let me tell you, the amount of people who flood my pm box with death threats, screaming why I made it Harem (even though I explicitly said it was a Harem story) and that I should go tie myself up, wasn't fun. At all. But I just ignored it if it has nothing that I can use for myself or be toxic on them instead of other people. Luckily, I'm not receiving them as much now but that's not the point.

The point is, the dev is being unprofessional as hell by targeting people who are politely criticising the game and with actually good ideas, some even aimed at this new VN (I think it was stated in here? Can't exactly remember) to be better

But the dev just goes full on being anal about the whole backlash. Not to mention that he didn't give any sorts of hints that he was going to change the game before.

Anyway, no harm done, so we're cool. I was just triggered by your generalising of us

You do realize we're talking about a porno game here right? This isn't the fall of Rome haha. But if you actually love something, maybe you should go with the response that will actually have the best outcome for it rather than just getting pissed. In my experience, when devs do respond to criticism, they have far better responses to calm, measured critiques that provide constructive advice, or when there's an actual monetary incentive. A wave of hate usually just makes them get defensive and shut down. If you want what's best for the game, the correct response is to politely let the dev know on patreon that this isn't the direction you want for the game and that you'll be withdrawing support if it keeps going this way. Or since realistically, none of the people here are probably patreon supporters, show your love for their past work by signing up and chucking a few bucks their way and letting them know you really liked how it used to be and you'd be happy to continue support if things went back to the direction they were. But people tend to be more interested in their own emotional catharsis than actual solutions.
So your solution to the problem is throw money at it and ask nicely? Wow, that's gonna end swimmingly. You are under the impression that every person operate the same way like we are all the same JIMMY's and NANCY's like bruh. People react to criticism differently, when i get criticized at work i tend to ignore em and keep working coz i have firm resolve on how i work if i believe i'm not wrong and when i am wrong i just shut up more since i don't want to admit it in front of coworkers and if i was wrong i'd take it all the way up to whoever's IN charge to avoid more rumors spreading and never admit a mistake with coworkers :D. Now if im like this then should i assume everyone reacts this way? This is not a past work thing, this is his first work so the supporters he has is here for this current work and DID NOT come here to support him so it's like paying for a game and getting mad at the game or paying a game coz you trust the dev "like hideo kojima" and hating what he did so whats the difference? If the supporters came for the dev then they would trust that developer on his artistic direction and that's why they chuck money at him and if they hate what he did it wont have that much of a backlash coz we're dealing with trust here BUT if they came here for a particular thing like the game itself then they support the GAME and they are chucking money AT THE GAME and not YOU AS A DEVELOPER so if they hate what you did with the game it would have a big backlash coz they don't even trust you that much to begin with so see the difference?

People getting upset over this is just a little silly, you know? Like just looking at art and setting aside real world things that actually matter, I was upset when Kentaro Miura died. Am I gonna be upset when an alright porno game I was fond of goes in a different direction? No, getting emotional over that is kinda dumb now isn't it.

And I guess I'm just preeeetty skeptical of people who say "oh I was being totally polite and got banned for no reason!" You know, not like it doesn't happen, I'm sure it did happen to people in this case as an emotional reaction to all the other less polite comments they're no doubt receiving. And if you're one of those people, I'm sure it must suck. But excuse me if I don't accept at face value every claim that all the people getting banned were being totally civil. You know, just past experience.

But that aside, if the dev really didn't care about money, they wouldn't have a patreon, now would they? That part they put in there about not catering to people is just a boiler-plate disclaimer so you don't have those weird rich furries coming in and demanding you add scat and other weird shit because they donated. If they didn't care about people's opinions, they obviously wouldn't be getting so defensive.

The real problem with all the pissy replies, is that it puts the author in a mindset where they're not receptive to criticism. If you've just read through 20 comments telling you to kill yourself in elaborate ways, you're probably not going to be as open to hearing actual advice. If every response to this situation right from the start had been calm and measured, I guarantee the dev's response would be different. But people don't want to admit that because "righteous indignation" is one of the most intoxicating feelings there is. That's why ragebait is so popular. People are always on the hunt for some excuse to feel it, even if it's over something completely trivial.
Again your coming to a game thread for a specific game and surprised that people are upset, No its not life changing but was also to some people an investment of money and time. If you Pre-ordered a New Call of Duty game that was sold as a First Person Shooter two years ago and upon release the developer changed it to a Visual Novel, you are not going to be happy.

Well that's the internet for ya and happens in all social media platforms. Gotta weed through those comments like the rest of us for the actual comments. As calm and measured as changing a games genre on a dime. He simply could have put a poll out for his idea on patreon if he was curious about what the "paying" player base thought or even on here for all to input.

Because there's not much else to talk about. There was an update that was suppose to be this month, but looks like its delayed abit due to the workload.

That's very cute. A better analogy would be having your roommate shit in your favorite bathroom and you not being able to find the shit. The roommate could clean the shit, but he won't because he likes smelling his own shit. You can use the other bathroom, but your favorite bathroom is forever sullied.
