my 2 cents - I think that with a bit editing this could be a five star game. Now its easily a 4. 1) anyone who is not a fan of "slow burn" - this is not the game for you. My issues are: while girls bodies look great both Becca and Lily look like a freaking barbie with those eyes. 2) too many fairy dreams 3) choices - not a lot of meaningful ones i mean this is almost a kinetic novel. 4) Frank as character i dont hate him as some here i like that he is conflicted. But even I was getting weary of OMG so much trouble dialogue - need to be toned down just a bit. 5) Finally - they got a house that is never really mentioned. I mean i guess they all move in to it at the end and live happily ever after but if you get a house that is worth 3 million ? I think it a future plot point but it needs to be handled better
You make some good points. I do think this is a 5 star game. But it isn't without its flaws.

First, I agree with you about the appearance of the girls. I get that the dev wanted to upgrade DAZ models, and the early renders of the first part, weren't the best in terms of modern quality. But the girls all has a realistic charm to their appearance, which was cute and sexy. The current version of the characters are less grainy, and have a bit more detail in their clothing and hair, but they have moved too far into doll territory. Their eyes are too far apart, too large, and their skin is way too smoothed over. Every time I play a new update and see Rebecca, Abby, or Lilly I say to myself, "Wow, is that how they look now?". I have to go look at an older version to see that I am not imagining how they originally looked, which is quite different.

I am also not a fan of Rebecca's new short hair. She looked great with long hair. Not sure why the dev went this way, since most guys find long hair more feminine and cuter, but I guess that is his preference.

Second, I mostly agree with you about the dream sequences. It seems like needless filler to me. Plus, I think all devs should have a moratorium on sex during dream sequences. I hate it. If it isn't in the game, what is the point? It has no meaning. However, to be fair, the dream sequences in Single Again, don't bother me quite as much as in some games. It isn't used as a teaser to the player for future content, for the most part. It is the dev's way of having the MC talk with his conscience, which is at least somewhat useful story-wise. I don't love it, but I can tolerate it.

As far as the MC, I actually like Frank. I think most that criticism of him around here come from those have been playing too many porn games, but I think his reactions, and reservations are pretty realistic and reasonable. I don't even mind the internal dialog about whether he is doing the right thing. It may get a little too much and repetitive occasionally, but that is his character, and it reads to me as a lot more realistic than the typical VN MC, that doesn't have more than a line or two of dialog before he is all-in on relationships with the LIs.

But, what I really like are the rest of the characters. Each one is fully fleshed out in terms of personality. I do think it would be even better if they had more hobbies, or something else going on in their lives but work and hanging out with the MC, but they each seem like a real person, for the most part. Of all the girls, Abby seems a little too one dimensional and bland, but I hope she gets a little more personality as the game continues. Mei seemed way too naive for her age for someone growing up in normal society at first, but as the game goes on it looks like maybe most of that is an act, and she is just painfully shy around others, which is fair, and interesting to see.

Plus, there is a lot of humor in the game. Becca's endless schemes and long-term plans, how she is always thinking 5 steps ahead of the MC to realize her dastardly, and sexy plans, is great. She's my favorite part of Single Again. Her type of character is rarely, if ever seen in VNs, and I love seeing what she is up to next. There is also just enough mystery about some details of the story, such as how Shannon will play in future updates, and what will happen with the lesbian neighbors, and Mei and her family, to keep me interested, just as a story. There could be more mystery, since I think it is obvious where this is all going to end up, but the journey is the fun part.

Mainly, I find myself smiling and chuckling every time I play each update. There is some sort of intangible quality that makes Single Again one of my very top favorite games here, despite the flaws.

I agree with you so far, only with Meiko I have to add something:

Meiko's story is tl;dr as follows:
Meiko finishes school and starts working at the cash register in her parents' store. Frank returns and her parents start trying to set her up with Frank.

So we see: she had no social life whatsoever away from work, not to mention friends. So you can sort of say she grew up super sheltered. The same can be said about Abby after Jessica's death, but she was able to "develop" her personality more freely thanks to Lilly and Becca. Mei also has siblings, but here again the age difference is so pronounced that she might as well have had no siblings.

Therefore, I think that her naivety and also her shyness is absolutely sincere. After all, Frank does bring it up with her parents and we notice slow changes as she interacts more with Abby, Becca and Lilly. Long story short: The fact that she didn't have any friends in school or the possibility to interact privately with people of about the same age have made Meiko the shy Meiko. I think you can also compare it well with a cat that has never interacted much with people her whole life. Only that Mei is much less "aggressive" looking for defense but rather retreats like a turtle.

1) Just found this game this week so i had no idea models looked differently
2) I dont hate Frank a- I like Frank his character - very much dislike "super alpha" logic MC who if you dig deeper is live in moms basement
3) The dreams in this game are important - to flesh out the story in the beginning but toward the end of current content needed to be less - that is why i am sayng Editor is needed

And finally it a good game has postentail to be great (leap of faith, acting lessons, long road home, chasing sunsets, young again are the games i consider 5star

Hold your horses... :KEK:

There is a huge difference between a Chad Thundercock, a normal person, and Frank...

I'm not sure if this is a coincidence or if you deliberately chose the name of the protagonist of a certain VN.

And yes, Frank may seem a bit out of touch with the world at times, but I see him as more of an introvert with enormous emotional scars due to Jessica's death.

It may also be that I recognize myself in Frank to an unhealthy degree:

"That's not lying, that's bending the truth." - A phrase I also said 1:1 when it came up in conversation with Mei.

We both like the series Community.

We push massive paranoia about things that could go wrong.

I don't have the dreams and foster daughter or stepdaughters though, though I do have a former acquaintance who has a daughter named like one of Shannon's daughters. I should possibly be concerned.

Been a while since I played this game. What the hell happened to Lilith's face ?
She looks like a scarecrow with an expired make-up. Was gorgeous before

question on the last choice in this update... or more like the WT recommendation on not to take the pill... what's the rationale behind that?

The walkthough recommends the "canon" choices but there is no evidence that deviating from these choices is bad except for a few instances where you get an immediate bad end. Sometimes, the canon choices give you less content. So this is a game I typically play without the walkthrough. I guess the choice on whether to take the pill or not depends on how good of a night you want Lilith to have.

I'm confused... just checked the "official" (not sure if that comes from the dev) WT pdf linked in the OP, and there the pill option is highlighted as canon... so which is it?

How is anything they just explained confusing? Canon options are green. Canon options sometimes suck and offer less content. that isn't always the case. Do what you want, just know that if you're following the canon choices then you're making the choices that Frank would canonically make and that Frank's a big ol' wet blanket so that isn't always a good thing.

maybe I should have phrased differently... my original post was about the WT mod, where the pill option isn't recommended... I haven't read the pdf before, so I was surprised when he said the WT uses canon choices... if he's referring to the pdf then it's clear of course.
