I could tell you what route is the best and what's the more redeeming in the end. There's typical tropes in this game with the characters.
I suggest doing Bella's LOVE route. Get the mod from the link below. There's several multi-girl routes, plus solos with all the girls in the house on top of side characters.

I've been playing this game for about two weeks now and I love it I installed Lain's gallery mod but it started crashing every time i tried to open it and gave me this error.

You know that the dev of the game can do very little for a mod from someone else?
Also the best would be to post this into the thread of the mod and not here. Regardless of this however Lain seems to be MIA.
Have you tried to install the patch on a fresh installation?
Are you using old (unmodded) save on the modded game?

When you change the default number of post per page you no longer get the right page the link is link to and it screws it up for you.
Change back to 20 post per page and the link works as it should.

edit: also I installed lain gallery mod but it says I don't have the extra scenes so it can't play it. is it a problem of the mod or are they missing for real in the compressed version?

Probably due to someone who reported it, try to ask Joker if he can put it on again, he's very kind maybe it will help you.
About the gallery, no even in the compressed version the extra gallery it's present, but it was explained that putting a mod onto a compressed game can cause issues, I would suggest to use the normal version if you can, it's better even if the game is bigger, more stable.
