Hi people, I just downloaded the Better Experience mod and when I tried the Doctor's story it gave me an idea (although it has nothing to do with it), but it gave me the idea that a story could be made with the "papers please" game now I played a couple of games like "papers please noporn" but none in 3D, and I would really like it if someone made a mod of this game with the mechanics of "papers please".
-That the girls carry an identification card. (valid or false)
-When more advances in history that require other types of documents.
-Being able to search them, in case they were carrying a weapon or something...:sneaky:

Basically a Papers Please in 3D would be amazing.

Would that be possible?

Giving my 2 cents on the whole issue with the dev silence and lack of updates. This is most likely just a passion projects game he did in his spare time. I don't think he ever thought he was gonna make any money out of it, but started a Patreon since there was something there and this game had something. I'm sure at the beginning he was extremely motivated to work on this game and the extra bucks help, but it is clear that just money isn't strong enough of a motivator to work on the project. Or is anything else for that matter. Working on this game right now is probably the last thing on his mind and that's his right. I guess the innocent hobby of working on this game started to feel like actual work and I doubt he wanted that. The money coming in from Patreon added that outside pressure and the feeling that you HAD to work on this to not dissapoint your donors.

I understand that he probably doesn't want to pull the plug since deep down I think he still wants to work on the game at some point. Who knows when that time is. I don't think he himself knows. As for the pissed of Patreons. You are free to cancel your membership at any time. You are not obligated to keep paying nor should you. The dev is also not obligated to keep working on the game just because you pay him on his Patreon. So if the signs point to him taking a break from developing the game, stop paying. That said, devs should always be honest about what the current state of development is. But donors shouldn't just sit back with their dicks in their hand waiting. Just stop donating at the first sign of inactivity with no communication.

Could he give his work to someone else. Probably. But that is his decision. And no amount of whining is gonna change that. It is what it is.

Anyway, MVP modders keeping this game afloat!

Almost 2 years ago, a man literally gave away his discord server. I agree with you in many ways, but again, it's not clear, if he was tired or burned out, why he didn't give the source code to enthusiast heads.

I think it's fairly clear why if you look at the decompiles tbqh. Source code isn't the same thing as documentation, and SMA is basically just a frontend to quite possibly the most psychotically detailed and catastrophically unwiedly character definition data structure/asset system I've ever seen. There's loads of it that just straight up isn't even used in SMA. It implements Cattell's 16PF ferchrissake! SMA is just the tip of the iceberg atop this crazy-ass character generation system you don't see below the surface. That's why the gameplay loop is basically down to, you know, "create characters".

So he could post his entire source tree tomorrow and you wouldn't get much of anywhere beyond what the modders are already doing (i.e. hijacking/replacing the fairly simple frontend), because anybody with the technical chops to start making heads or tails of the thing below it absolutely has better things to do than beat their head in trying to figure out a truckload of undocumented five-plus-deep class/interface object hierarchies (95% of which all the methods, properties, functions, variables, etc etc are named in Spanish btw) for a few weeks until they get it well enough to maybe do something useful with them without breaking all sorts of shit in the process.

In any event, even if he is tired of SMA the frontend, he can basically fiddle with this person model infinitely because the main benefit of it being such an unoptimized abstracted monstrosity is that he could yeet its logic out of Unity and plunk it into Godot or anything that's C# supporting, really. Most of SMA isn't necessarily only usable in SMA. Hell, even in the decompiles there's references to at least two other previously existing frontend ideas (the beach girls and the doctor's office).

Anyway I really doubt the death/stalling of SMA in particular would be the end of his person project overall, so because of that don't hold your breath on him opensourcing any of that.

It's nice to have knowledgeable people come here to jerk off . I agree, the porn content is only a part of his entire body of work. But if it makes money and the person was really interested in doing it, then why not post content more often, or at least communicate their plans more often ?

Because not everyone is a born businessman with the skills necessarry for organisation and communication.
Solo developers also have a tendency to develop mental issues and burnout, they invest a lot of time in a project that most of the time don't bring enough money in.

Then, there is also the blank page syndrome, you think you are making good progress, but there is that single tiny insignificant thing that is preventing any progress.

Yes, as a consummer (need I remind you this is a pirate den?) it is annoying to pay and see no progress, but then, the only thing you can do is stop supporting the dev, complaining and trying to understand why progress isn't made won't push more progress to be made.

That's the unfortunate truth of things.
