You are meant to burnout that is the whole point of that battle. What screen shows up after you do that?
if he laughed it means the burnout didnt happen as that occurs when you allow him to take over... the burnout means he goes up in flames. Will need Tals comments on this.
If you are fighting that last Demon (or whatever it is...) in the latest Chapter - just keep hitting him with 'More Power' and you will win, and not die. At least not in my last couple of Play times. I never died.
Just to make sure that there are no issues with it, I went through the fight with Tavros, worked as intended.

Don't click less power at all. You have to just click more power and then click burn out.
