Yes as both me and UncleVT stated, you can choose a protagonist as a he or a she and they are black/dark skinned.

Sounds like a comic book. Feels strange to me to make that be a game and not just a PDF or something. Though I guess it does open up more multimedia capabilities.

It doesn ressemble a digital comic book, only difference is that you don't pass the pages to keep reading.

Depending.

You can choose a male attendant, there are a few male crew members, there is a hermaphrodite species. However there are more females than males in the game.

Just play this for the first time. I like the story/game, very original.
It's a change from all other 'school/house setting' games out there. I like it.
