This is just a preference thing, but... could there be a toggle for all the pubic hair these girls are rocking? Feels like a 70s porno where every girl has a massive bush.
i didnt play most recent version, but I remember it as each having a moderate patch, not a "massive bush".

Lol, it was an exaggeration, I don't care if you want to fixate on that or not. I'm simply asking for a toggle for those who prefer shaved.

While I'd prefer a more shaved look myself, did you think how that would be implemented?
All the visuals in the game are pictures/images. In other words, to have a toggle like you asked would require double the amount of images for every sex scene.
Clearly not a good use of space for little benefit, don't you think?

seems interesting , but i'm not a fan of multiple endings and swinging...is swinger optional at least? thanks
There are no swinging ends in the entire game. Not sure where you heard that from. Unfortunately, with 150+ endings to get, there are absolutely multiple endings.

The most important thing is to have Netorase - Swinging, if you have these tags the game is good
You can't please everyone as a developer. All you can do is what you want to do and be true to your vision. Hopefully, the supporters that like and understand what you are doing will find your game.

Is there any chance before you finish this game for good, we can get a harem ending with all 12 of the GAIA AI's, including the one on Earth? I don't know exactly which story-line it could fit in, but I'd really like to see it. Since the Cyberian saga seems to be done, maybe the one where he got that ship that lets go anywhere with no issue? I dunno, but still, pretty please?
That was never a thing in my plans. The GAIA series of robots are basically just background characters that build the universe and move the plot along.

That's not possible. Or, it would be a massive amount of work for a negligible gain. There are people that have given feedback that they like the fact the women have pubic hair, so it's clear I'm not going to be able to please everyone.

Here's the second to last update for STELLAR INCOGNITA. Next month will (obviously) be the final installment and then I am moving on to my next fantasy game HEROES OF CELTICA. I will also be working on STELLAR INCOGNITA EX and hope to get that released before the end of 2024.

WHAT IS STELLAR INCOGNITA EX?
  • It's like the Director's Cut of a movie.
  • It has all the content of STELLAR INCOGNITA.
  • The image filter will be turned off, so every image will be the original 3D render.
  • There will be about 900 to 1000 extra images and story lines that I had originally planned to add to STELLAR INCOGNITA but took out.
  • Two new female characters (along with the original female cast).
  • Updated music score.

Can you give us a little preview of what we can expect in the last update (1.0)? Which storylines will be expanded?

I mean, things change all the time. You have 12 of them, at least 3 ended up being featured in endings. I'm not asking for a lot, just a one-off ending. Maybe you can add it in Stellar Incognita Ex? I don't mean to be rude, I just like my android girls and 12 of them would be great as an ending. If you can consider it, I would appreciate it. Maybe ask your supporters on patreon if they'd be into that so it would bring more reasoning to consider it. Thanks very much mate, have a great day!

Stellar Incognita [v0.9.5] [Slamjax Games] - Compressed

I've added icons to the android version. Please give feedback on the appearance as I can't test all variations due to android adaptive icons.

ATTENTION:
In my never-ending quest for efficiency and optimisation, I'm testing a different way to install to save space.
I've tried to make it as simple as possible. Please read the instructions.

The final big storyline to be completed is the "Yado Planet" storyline with the queen and the princess. The Yados will also be coming back in Stellar Incognita EX.

Windows/Linux/Mac:

1. Download Base.
2. Download the correct install version.
  • For Windows and Linux, download PC.
  • For macOS, download Mac.
3. Extract the base and install-files to the same place.
It should look like this:
Code:
PC: / macOS: /
    ├── Game-base ├── Game-base
    ├── Game-pc ├── Game.app
    ├── RUN_ON_WINDOWS.bat └── RUN_ON_MAC.command
    └── RUN_ON_LINUX.sh
4. Run the file depending on your machine.
  • For Windows, run the .bat-file.
  • For Linux, run the .sh-file.
  • For Mac, run the .command-file.

Android:
  • Download and install the .apk-file.
While I applaud the effort I'm sorry to say this in no real way improves efficiency or optimization. You're reducing download sizes minimally while complicating the installation process and introducing additional code not produced by the Renpy engine itself thus increasing the opportunity for something to go wrong. This same if not substantially greater reductions in download size can be achieved by offering update patches which only add and change files as necessary vs having to redownload the entire game content every time.

To be clear, I'm not reducing the download size at all. I could have if I split the Windows/Linux version, but I chose not to. I mentioned it's to save space, on my storage and on upload sites. It's to reduce the total size of all versions.

I do not agree that I'm overly complicating the installation process. The old installation is extracting an archive. The new installation is extracting two archives and run a file. It's trivial.

The additional code is simply there for convenience. It's not critical, only to automate something that could be done in 10 seconds manually. It's open source and only use OS built-in programs. Even if something goes wrong, at most it will just fail to install the game. I expect users to report any problems that occur. Until then I consider it stable.

I do not have a previous version, thus no update patch can be made. But while update patches can reduce the download, it can substantially complicate things. It requires computing the delta of different versions, require extra manual work. For users, they need to keep track of different versions and possibly download many files. Much higher risk of something goes wrong. I'd not dismiss the idea of doing patches, especially for larger games. But luckily, the compressed versions I do are already much smaller to begin with.

You didn't actually specify were you were trying to save space; just that you were trying to by changing the install method. That said the places you say you're trying to save space now don't in any real way benefit the end user so it's unlikely anyone's gonna care and thus they would prefer you stick to the same sort of file packages as all the other uploaders/compressors.

Also I didn't say you were overly complicating the process cause it does remain simple enough to understand that even a small child could do it. What I did say was that you were making it more complicated than necessary which is the opposite of efficiency while introducing additional points of potential failure. Again you're not benefiting the end user in any notable way so it's a bad change.

As to update patches I wasn't suggesting you needed to make one. I was just pointing out it's the only way to reduce download sizes of already compressed versions in a way meaningful to the end user. Also with apps like winmerge and freefilesync creating patches requires virtually no work at all.

While we're on this topic...

For my next game, I am mindful of using file types that will reduce the overall size of the Ren'Py installation package, such as .opus and .webp. I do think it's a benefit to the user if I can do this from the outset. The problem I have is that I'm not seeing a great reduction from .png to .webp when compared to .png to .jpeg.

If anyone could recommend optimal settings for high quality and good file reduction when converting .png to .webp, that would be much appreciated.

Unfortunately, there is no universal setting for compression; compression settings are subject to the content. For example, when I compress your games, I test many different quality levels on multiple images, then compare them to the original, for a good feel of how the images responds to different levels of compression.

I'll also say that I don't compress to .webp so my knowledge here is limited. (For example, I don't know this program you use to compress. I assume quality is equal to -q in . Compression method? Filter strength? Is filter blurring? Is that maybe why you don't get good results?)

is a small compression study comparing .jpeg (your previous target) to .webp (your current target).
They use photographs while you use computer created 3D graphics, so the characteristics will be different, but we can still learn something from their tests.

Based on their results, here's what I would do:
  • Pick a couple of images that's representative of your new game. Some character shots, some environment shots, some action shots etc.
  • Compress them as you would normally do to .jpeg.
  • Compress them to .webp that's 25% smaller than the .jpeg versions. Use the quality setting, NOT the file size setting.
  • Compare the .webp and .jpeg versions. They should look fairly similar. Pay attention to places in the image with more noise, that's the first place the image will struggle with high compression. See the water image .
  • If the .webp images looks worse than .jpeg, redo .webp compression with higher quality. If .webp looks better, either accept the better looking images, or reduce the quality.
  • When you are satisfied, remember the settings you used for .webp and use it for the rest of your game.
For an additional suggestion that's not directly about compression, avoid referring to media files (images, audio, video) with their full name/path. As long as the names are unique, Renpy will understand what file you refer to. (e.g. "game/sounds/background/smash.mp3" -> smash).
This makes it easier to change formats when developing the game (and also easier to replace files when making a compressed version ;)).
