This game reminds me of another AVN called "Summer Scent" since both of them have tons of route variations (albeit nothing can be compared with Summer Scent in terms of route split) to navigate and thus inevitably cost more time to develop, during which either devs get burnt out or (for me most importantly) players just gradually lose interest because the attention span can only last for a limited amount of time.

Nah stomside would have had WAY more variations/paths and routes than summer scent, its not even a comparison. The scummer scent dev is just the slowest dev ever seen, he creates like 10-20 renders a month lol, i think its the worst case of being a perfectionist.

While the dev here, we have no clue but its not really unlikely that he got overwhelmed with all the variations already, couple that with all the guys who predicted that and are now "Told you so", i can see why he went down under

Fair enough since I dropped SS ages ago due to the abysmal development period and the only thing I remember vividly is the overwhelming "walkthrough", but you are right, in terms of route variation AND combination of different LIs' different routes, Stormside really takes the stage. I just hope that if the game by some miracle gets revived, the dev should just dial down the variations and instead focus on the actual plot progression and relationship buildup.

I agree, I think the best thing Atemsiel could do if he ever reappears is look at what he has set up and seriously consider how to either reduce the amount of routes he has planned or at the very least reduce the variations between the routes themselves so he doesn't go burn out/go insane. Then again it looks like that advice is a little too late.

eh im not even sure its the "route"s thats the issue....to me it feels like 3 dif types of stories....I think it needs to be slimlined into a dude goes to college or a trainer or a supernatural return to childhood friend story....but I really like the girls so good job dev :)

stray incubus has new devs working on it doesn't it?
it does, seems like they're still finding their footing tho, last I heard they had to switch out renderers cus the original left for personal reasons. Not sure if they've dropped an update yet or not either, will have to check on that.

Yeah, but this might not mean anything. Working with the story of someone else without possibly knowing how to continue might not work at all. Or maybe only for one or two Updates.

It's only the good games that get abandoned, never the shoverlware and cash grabs
Eh, I think it is more of a case that you care about the good games being abandoned and not so much about the bad ones. They get abandoned as well. Stray Incubus was a shock for me and it made me actually sad. This did not happen with Stormside, but mainly because of two reason:
- It was not as abrupt as Stray Incubus (really, Flynn dropped a message and it was gone, Atemsiel was MIA for quite some time now)
- There was no definitive announcement that it will be abandoned, so I am still on a bit of copium here.

Crowdfunded-via-subscription developers (on sites like Patreon) don't really have a strong economic incentive to finish their games. What they are incentivized to do is to put out something interesting to build their revenue stream, that's it. Most slow down the updates while the cash keep flowing, and eventually the whole project dies and they jump to another one. Of course their reputation will eventually suffer and they won't be able to to this forever, but in the meantime they'll get money they can spend however they want. They can always change their brand and start from scratch (that is, if they don't get caught)

I'll just say that all the speculation about an economic motive is wildly off base, at least in this game's case. That's never been enough of a factor for Atemsiel's development motivations for it to be relevant.

At this point, I'm significantly more concerned about Atemsiel's safety and health than anything else.

I get why some folks would immediately jump to "grifter", but Atem suddenly dropping contact with everybody out of nowhere does seem pretty worrisome

The problem is that, as far as I understand, no one has access to his messengers, the same WhatsApp, Telegram? In principle, of course, this is not surprising, it is literally almost a personal life, but for now, I think this is all we should rely on.

Its just weird, in case something tragic really happened to him, does nobody of atemsiels private life know about his job/hobby?

He still has 272 paid customers, will the money from them just go 100% to patreon if something happened to him because his heir or whoever doesnt have a clue about it (i imagine they have a similar payout system like twitch for example)?

Being (even a small/indie) game dev is having your small company, you have to do taxes and stuff but there is not a single emergency contact in case something happens and someone has to contact your customers in case of a discontinued development... ?

What a disappointment...

This was the first AVN I played. I even paid for a month of his Patreon because I liked it so much, and it opened a whole new world of gaming for me.

I hadn't checked on this one for a while, as I've since been occupied with a host of other games (BaDik, Eternum, Ripples. All the big names, and many more.) but tonight I was browsing latest updates, and remembered there was supposed to be an update for this some time ago.

Guess I won't be playing it for the foreseeable future, but I sure do hope he makes a return. At the very least, I hope he's well. As I said, he basically brought me into this world, and it's been great for the burnout I've had with mainstream gaming.
I would go so far as to say I owe him more than the month I paid for, and if he ever does return, I'll be sure to do so.
