A little game? :KEK: :KEK: :KEK:
Bro, this is probably the best urban fantasy game here. Anyway, I fully agree and join your recommendation, even though the thread author does not want to include it in the LIST.
I'm guessing you've never played Superhuman, because that is undoubtedly the best urban fantasy game on F95zone. Even the story alone beats out The Neverwhere Tales, and then there's the fantastic soundtrack, the art glow up, and the intense fight scenes.

Have been meaning to check that one out for years, that being said I'm still a little skeptical that its better than Reluctant Archon

As far as the thread as a whole goes I'd like to recommend Origin Story for fans of Superheroes Suck. Has many things I'm not huge on (school setting, superheroes, magic dick MC), but despite that was a gripping experience that encouraged me to skim the sex scenes to get back to seeing how the story progressed. The LIs have lives outside of the MC though there is an optional safe mode (which as a stereotypical ntr-hating jealousy maxxer i did indulge in)

Admittedly I was not thinking about Reluctant Archon since it's been so long since I played it, but I would say that Superhuman is better. I won't say in terms of writing because I don't remember a lot about RA, but as a whole? 100%.

I will also second the recommendation of Origin Story.

Edit: There's a reason Superhuman is ranked 7th on ratings here.

Tried origin story. I really liked the main Li (blanking on her name) but couldn't really get into the fuck everyone to get more powers thing, especially since I wasn't into any of the others at all.

So this little game called The Neverwhere Tales just had its chapter 6 release, its a fantasy setting with a focus on the story (for me that means no harem in sight lol) and characters. I wanted to throw out a recommendation for it, thanks.
As I read through the plot blurb "Raised by parents that supported you" - that's unique. "Until you got a call from your mother" - uh oh. "Everything you knew" - damnit. Lol. Joking aside though, it looks like it could be good.

it's one of my favorite games I probably put it in my personally top 5 or so when it comes Story. Only real negative is it can be hit and miss depending on how you self insert if at all. Some players can't stomach to play certain routes because they dislike a certain character or organization ( I disagree with them personally but I understand why). But by skipping certain routes you are going to miss some lore and other information or make certain updates lackluster like this one if you weren't on anyone route.

Personally the update was my favorite chapter yet but I am one plays for characters more than story. Tho if you only care about story yeah the last chapter wasn't good. It felt like a vacation and the MC barley did much but hangout with girls. But he did need a vacation from what he just went through however would of nice to have done a little more.

Neverwhere Tales to me has a huge flaw from a story-first perspective. There's obviously been put a lot of attention to the story, but despite that it's structured like a dating sim. It takes itself very seriously, but then it's just a string of fun dates with hot women.
As a result it's a generic chosen one story, but turned up to eleven to put the protagonist as the comically undisputed center of attention, if only to make all the women smitten with him, so he can go on his dates.

Like there's this grand story of inter-dimensional war with demons from hell and elven sorcerers and scifi templers and people are getting kidnapped and killed, but for some reason everyone (a majority of important characters are romanceable women) makes the protagonist's personal struggles their very first priority.

Did play broken promises

This one might be another story first candidate.

Story's about the MC who's a cop who "retires" in order to go undercover to go against some drug dealer organization. Sounds kinda cringe at first, especially when later on it gets revealed that his undercover work takes place at some university/college (don't remember)..

It's funny because of what Hildegardt wrote about AVN's introducing some story only to then to take like a 10 chapter break right away, just doing LI rounds.. Broken promises does the opposite, to some extent at least. Like, when he shows up at school the game just starts developing characters and introducing side stories. And it kinda never stops doing that . Even some of the male side characters do get some more background added to them which I wasn't expecting to be honest. Same goes for the LI's who're all intertwined either with the story or with each other in some way.

The first LI that you can pursue is also an intersting choice. She has a kid and the MC does interact with her in a couple of scenes which kinda puts you on the spot if you do decide to go that route. I just thought that her placement within the story is interestingly chosen when you look at the whole thing and the pacing of it all.

As for the other female choices, first of all, this is a slow burn game. There's no real instant attraction between the LI's and the MC in which the MC becomes their center of the universe right from the get go. Or at least to a way lesser extent than we're used to... Also the MC is different from the usual, imo. He doesn't exactly goes back to school to score some "college chick".

On the flipside you might argue that he isn't a great undercover cop either :p. But that's by design, knowing all the other characters involvement. It's not like a crime, "noir" undercover story, it's this weird "bit of everything/AVN thingy" that tries to put in many different things all at once. For me personally it worked out great so far, but your mileage may vary here...

Great renders, great music, great animations, great.....

Go check it out if you're looking for something slightly different.
