Well now that I can get the autosave to work from far enough back, I get this error when I get to the end of the game just before being able to save for transfer.

I actually had the same problem. My solution was to install URM and open the console with Shift + O and the create the variable:

If you want her to know you are with others:

serenaknowsyouarebangingothers = True

If you don't want her to know:

serenaknowsyouarebangingothers = False

Alternative you can use URM create variable feature:

Funny thing is that variable is already in the script though which begs the question as to why it is not being picked up when compiling the export save.

My best guest is that is a new variable added for the Steam version, I only downloaded the current version to export my save and probably this variable is set somewhere in the chapter. Since I loaded an end of chapter save the game never got the chance to set this variable. All speculation, I haven't check the script.

They, at least Ines and Vi, certainly know about Els, but not about Kana. And I don't think it's relevant since she's not a legit LI but they don't know about Serena.

Hey all! Quick drop in today. Els and Vi are dropping by to deliver some news. And that news is the official release date for Steam Unbroken Book one will releasing to the public next week! So last chance to get in and wishlist it if you haven't, every little bit helps.

Now that business is out of the way and we can return to our usual update. Next few days I'll be doing final tweaks to make sure I don't have any unexpected launch day wrinkles but otherwise I'm damn happy to get this shit out of my mental bandwidth.

After that we'll be returning to Part Eight animation work, that scene I ended up having to adjust that I mentioned in our last update actually turned out way better than I had anticipated, while I'm still a bit sad about the previous version this new one let me experiment with something almost as fun which did end up working out. Lighting it will be a tad more complicated than usual, but once that's done I'll be moving to the next animation. This one will be ... interesting. I'll be trying a lot of clothing and hair physics for this particular one, more than I've tested out before, really hoping my PC doesn't decide to melt. Maybe I'm being a bit more ambitious than usual this time around, but I have the tools to do it and I really want to keep improving. Anyway I'm rambling now so I'll shut up.

PLEASE READ this post explaining "new" and "old" builds, and YES, the old build is actually a "new" update of Part 7/Book 1.

Just came across this game, is Part 7 the same as saying Book 1? i.e. would Pt.7 be the correct compressed build to download if I wanted to try out the full latest game version?

yep part 7 is the conclusion of book 1. Next update will be a "new" game, starting book2, hence why the latest maintenance update to part 7 includes a save transfer feature.

Steam version will have a couple of bonus things. Part 7 is the conclusion as it's Part 1-7 for Book 1. You will need to use the Steam version or one of the new versions for Part 8, which will be the start of Book 2.

This about the bonuses for Steam:

You will need to use one of these links to ensure your saves transfer to Part 8 properly. These builds also contain the gallery and named saves that have long been requested. They will not contain the full soundtrack as well as a few surprises I cooked up for the Steam edition.

So, it sounds like Steam will have a different soundtrack (due to copyright) and probably a few bonus renders.
