Hello, everyone!

This week we'll focus on the content we have so far, and what still remains to be created. We have passed the point of doubling the content of CH04. In quick numbers, CH05 currently looks like this:
  • 2400+ renders (rendered and unrendered).
  • 8 lewd animations (unrendered).

The last stretch of work consists of several hundred renders still, mainly remaining scenes of Eve, Bree and Mia.

For a good while now we're been running a big render queue, which has been in the hundreds at times. The animation frames are also all unrendered because we're rendering out the story renders first. There's still a couple of possible animations and some extra angles we'd like to do, but they're in "maybe" territory. We're opting out of cinematic and extra animations until we're able to render 24/7 in the background.

We haven't been fond of making estimations because the render times are a huge impacting factor and there are only so many hours in the day to create new content. Our current render queue for example is "only" about 90 hours if left to render continuously, plus loading times. The animations are far, far in the 100+ hours territory... but we'll look into optimizing that when we reach that point.

At this point it might be obvious what the problem is, and the good news is that we've worked towards fixing it. We are slowly building a 24/7 rendering rig. We've already done a lot of the back-end work to have it functioning with ease when it comes to file sharing, assets and that sort of thing. Our plan has been to get this rig fully functional with the release of CH05.

Choices, choices...

We also had a really long talk about the development time of CH05 and how it took over the content of CH06. We're not really happy about it, and at this point we're not as confident that we made the right call. The longer wait times are coming back around to bite us in the ass... but there's always options to consider.

After thinking it over, we boiled it down to two possible options:

A) Continue creating CH05 as we currently are.

B) Make changes to CH05, moving some scenes to CH06 to release faster.

Option A means the train keeps on chugging, no stops. We finish the evening and night content fully before releasing CH05 exactly as we envisioned it, with no scenes left out. It would still take some time to create, and especially to render. We prefer this option because it's the whole package as we planned it.

Option B means the train switches tracks. We cut the chapter right before the night content starts with the main girls and save those scenes for the next chapter. This obviously means CH05 wouldn't contain all the content we envisioned for it and might end abruptly, but it would enable us to release the chapter much faster.

We'd love to hear your thoughts on this.

Regardless, the render queue is popping off and the work continues. On the coding and SFX side of things, work has been a breeze since it's much easier when it doesn't require hundreds of hours of waiting (unless something is seriously wrong). We also edited the script and created more custom morphs for our clothing so the fabric moves more naturally.

Next week we're looking forward to focus on some intimate scenes, and more scripting.

Other news

We published June's special render of Mia earlier today. It's a little camping trip with some strip poker. In case you didn't have a chance to see it yet,

Cheers,

It's an obvious Option A. You've already gone this far, might as well continue. Who cares about the time it took for the update as this point. Give the full package, and make the wait worth it.

Ending the chapter abruptly would only enrage most consumers, as most would not have read this announcement and think the devs wasted so much time only to end the chapter at such a bad timing.

Edit: I don't know if the devs read this but, Northpx This game is yours, while it's being funded by consumers, the game is still yours. In the end you and your partner's competence and talent was the reason this game got popular so quickly. Do not cater to your fans, and provide what you think is right. Feedback and communication is very good, but straight up changing plans you've set your mind on for so long to cater to the loud minority is not the play. Please, reconsider if it comes to the scenario that option B is taken.

I'm not currently a patron, so this is just my worthless opinion. I hope everything goes well, and I'm looking forward to the update no matter the scenario.

My thoughts: if after 9, 10 or however many months it will already take to complete the update you leave out the most substantial content with any LI people will go ballistic, and rightfully so. It makes no sense to wait for this long and not be able to see the night scenes.
Option A is the only way: you should complete the whole Ch5 as you had envisioned it, and then endeavour to achieve a more rationalized development pace moving forward.
I hope the patrons have learned from their mistakes and won't choose the wrong option B or everyone (they included) will regret it.

True. We're already pretty deep into this cycle. What's a few more months then? At this point, it'd be like running a marathon then quitting in the last stretch and calling it a day.
At the end of the day, the players won't be satisfied with waiting that long and not getting some content and more importantly the devs won't be satisfied with having to make a compromise on their project.

I think stuff like should be on a case-by-case basis. If these were more seasoned devs who are notorious for adding in misc. bs no cares about, then I'd say "Yes, just cut it short." However, for this one I think it's more like "Well, now they know and should apply what they learned for the next update."

Don't rush and take your time with it. We all know Patience is a virtue and I'd rather have the whole chapter at once than just 80 percent of it.

The decision to split the content should've be made many months ago. Now is just worse than this ass-long dev cycle. People already will definitely whine when this update release because will still be just the end of day 1, and for sure there will people saying that the amount of content didn't make worth the waiting, so just release after finish everything and get all the whine at once instead of in two waves.
And i second what CoomerKing said: it's your game, Northpx. It's good to be open to feedback of the players, but at the end of the day, players/patrons shouldn't be the ones with the power to decide about critical things, like development cycles. You guys should be the ones to decide because this is something that affect mainly just you and your project and no one else. The mistake was give to much attention to the complaints and demands about more playtime.
So, instead of ask to players, i'd like you guys could ask to yourselfs what type of dev cycles you want for your game, and stick to the answer. Everyone else then could just adapt to it.

For those who still do not know these developers who are very meticulous and detailed with their work, I will summarize them in a simple way:

B-update within 2-3 weeks (without a perfect closure for day 1)

A-another 3 months long wait seeing the same reports now impatiently (maybe we will have something at the end of October or in the first 2 weeks of November, being optimistic of course:BootyTime:)

Yep I know, the Devs will not be happy with option B but I think that they should pay the piper a bit for underestimating development times... anyway I'm sure people will vote for option A, they've already voted badly before.

I wanna preface this by saying that I'm just a lurker (massive crush on Bree ) and dont talk at all in forums. I mostly write reviews for games when I really want to (will write Summer Heat's review once CH5 comes out). But I feel like I need to express my opinion on the matter here - maybe Northpx might even see this since they talked about the backlash about the amount of time this update is taking (and that couldn't have been all from people on patreon) please stick to plan A. You have come so far believing in a plan and sticking to it, yes it has taken longer than usual and yes you guys have faced a lot of backlash but stopping at this point will only ruin the anticipation and excitement of a large update for everyone including yourselves. You envisioned it this way and you should carry it out this way, changing tracks this late can't be a good move. WAL's developers have had to constantly put up with people crying out *wen update* but they've kept true to themselves and carried on even if that means taking longer to deliver an update, it's worth it in the end because it's the way you the artist imagined the painting to be without any alteration and external interference. Good luck with your 24/7 rig, I hope it helps making renders faster! Going forward, you should decide the way you wanna pace the updates like you did with CH5 by adding the night content in it. Some people will always be upset - no matter what you do, believe in yourselves and see that your ideas come to fruition the way you want them to. In the end I'm just a peasant, a nobody but I just had to step in just for the off chance you check the forum.

I love your game and wish you the best of luck going forward!

I'm just hoping for a Steam release. I don't even care if it isn't even close to the end. I just want to own it lol. The Devs can take their time, I am not rushing. They have lives too. Take your time, rest/relax when you can, eat etc.

All good things comes to those who wait. I am drunk right now so, blah. Shut up and let me give you my money.
