What is the next update? Is it Chapter 5 full? So I'm assuming just finished rework, or is there new content as well? I haven't been keeping up with the logs.

Next update is CH5 Full, which completes Season 1. Over 1500 have been redone/added to the game, some scenese are expanded (the Holgerson scenes for example) and there are some new scenes as well. Ocean has an intro cinematic he wan't but has said if it wasn't done in the next two weeks (I think), he'd send it to steam anyway, and add the cinematic later. That kinda means that his late estimate of when season 1 is dropped should be imminent (ie this week), and that's why the air in this thread tastes of anticipation. Given his past deadlines, none of us are holding our breath though :sneaky:

Yeah... the constant complaining is getting rather annoying. If the update cycle's not something you can cope with, or the rework & changes to the story aren't things you can live with... then why not leave? These grand announcements of how this user won't play the game because of X, and that user hates it because of Y... they're getting quite old. If these things bother you so much, why not leave and scratch Summer's Gone off of your list? Why stay to announce to the world that you decided not to pirate this game? Like omg! Whatever will Oceans do about a random F95 user who decided that they're no longer going to pirate his game?? :cautious:

Like I can't stress enough how dumb this all isღ
I love that this is just some random person ranting about other people ranting about the game, justified or not. This thing was linked on the OP and I was thinking it was something official and important from oceans themselves like some big explanation of why development cycles take so long and what not. But to see it's literally just someone going on with the tried and true "you can't have a critical opinion of the game" or "say something true about it". Fact of the matter is, whether you're tired of hearing it or not, there is nothing but absolute truth in people talking about the slow development cycle of the game. It is what it is lol. And not all reviews are going to be sunshine and rainbows, a good stance I take with writing my franchise is 'you're going to be the villain for someone' it's just how it is.

This is par for the course when you give people a slice of the game and it's a work in progress or in an official capacity a "live service game". People jump on hype trains, they're excited, almost too much, to get their hands on something. They enjoyed SG and they want more. Issue here is, just like they can leave the game or foolishly be told not to support it, one doesn't NEED to read through every comment. If you're here for the game, why are you exploring 1.2k+ comments to irritate yourself in the first place? Oceans doesn't seem discouraged, they're still being supported and while yes, it is absolutely at a snails pace, they seem to be working on the game. I'm working on alot of my own stuff and I can utterly understand a creator going back and editing and editing and reworking to make things as perfect as possible. That kind of approach isn't always realistic, but you fall into it wanting to make the best thing you can and appeal to as many people as possible. It just comes with the territory. Anywho, I simply thought this was funny. Certainly wasn't what I was expecting clicking this from the OP.

Oh well, cheers and be well!

It seems that the last mile to CH5 Full will be littered with the half-decomposed corpses of the high hopes of those who couldn't be patient a bit more. :KEK:
Nothing new tho, it happens before every Ocean's release. And the guys were surprised that in recent days the conversations in the main threads were suspiciously on the topic of the game, which is very unusual. Thanks for bringing it back down to earth, bro! Please, continue spreading the Burning Truth and slam this nasty girl Fortuna ღ :KEK:
For me it is extremely funny and amusing, since I remember the context of this post, it was after the dev log where Ocean claimed that he wanted to create a new intro cinematic and delete the scene of Marla with the gun. Then the howling and squealing in the thread became ultrasonic and her post seemed to be the only sane one. Maybe that's why the mods then pinned it to the OP. :KEK:

As Ocean isn't on this site, the mods decide what to do with the thread I guess - they linked that post (like they have with other threads) to thinks they think people should read before commenting. It's not an official post, but at the time it was a brief moment of clarity, I don't think the poster intended on it being pinned or anything, that was the mod's decision, as they're the thread owners I guess. I also can't remember if there was a minor purge of posts around then.

You're right in one important aspect. New fans don't have a history with the game, they have all the adrenaline etc. It'll wear off, and hopefully their appreciation matures like wine rather than cheese.

Right now I'm like an eager puppy, waiting for the stick to be thrown, hopefully sometime before my nap, and in the mean time I'd better do some work myself. :sneaky:

If you have followed Fortuna ღ and her posts through the years - you would realize that she is hardly a 'random person' and her post accurately captured the feelings of many of those of us who enjoy SG and get tired of the cycle of whining when XYZ happens, or ABC gets announced.

There Is a difference between a critical opinion offered as part of a discussion and the 'Ocean Sucks' posse who get incensed if you don't just jump on their lemming train - discussion and factual statements Not required.

Once CH 5 final is released, we will get another major uptick in those who complain about SG while taking it for free.

Some of us will comment on this and others won't.

If you are still here when CH 5 final drops, you will see some alt id's appear - my 'favorites' are the ones that are years old with a handful of posts about SG and just brimming with the opposite of a love fest...

The post you quoted was from August, 2023 - and its context, as yossa999 pointed out, has bearing on what the post says and why it is even there.

In the end - SG will be decades in the making, Ocean is Ambitious as hell with this project, and I am going to enjoy every update I can on this journey.

If you like SG, I believe that the next release will give you a good reason to try Season 1 from the beginning or at least from roughly the middle of CH 2 when the new content picks up.

I am stocked up (beer and pizza) and all ready for a full run of Summers Gone Season 1!

Cheers!! :coffee:

why are you exploring 1.2k+ comments to irritate yourself in the first place?
Why indeed.

I guess if you don't have anything else/better to do, why not do things that upset/irritate or etc yourself?

I mean, I don't care much for the game but that won't stop me from wanting to see what the Dev ends up doing with it (if he cancels it down the line or see how far he can get etc) also, I am curious about the "lighten Dark path" if that is still even a thing.

When did the rework of SG and WiAB begin?
I don't know the actual dates, but WiaB reached ch6 in the old version, and then has been redone from the start, complete overhaul mid Nov 2021, so, there's been a chapter a year since then.

SG had the first rework part started during Ch3 and was released 23 Jan 2021, so 2 new chapters since then, plus 2.5 reworked and expanded ones - a decent chunk of ch3 I think hasn't been reworked.

So we have 16k renders + cinematics for SG and WiAB (-renders before the rework) for like 3,5-4 years.

Ocean also spends time writing. A movie script takes six months or a year. With a team of writers, a script for TV show takes a year. In terms of scope, SG and WiAB are TV shows and one person works on them.

Is it really slow?

I personally don't think so. I wrote a long reply then decided to leave it at this. I like the game, and I'll keep watching for updates and play them whenever they're available. It's not really more complicated than that.
